If “Mystery Babylon” Is Not Rome, Then Who Is It?

Here is a great article by Walid Shoebat that everyone needs to read in full. As we all know, Satan does everything in his power to counterfeit, corrupt and conceal truth. As noted in my Mark of the Beast article, the Church of God — the assembly of His people — is called the “Ekklesia” in Scripture and in terms of location is identified with Jerusalem, the epicenter of the Judeo-Christian faith. If the “Bride” of Christ is identified and associated with the city of “Jerusalem” (Rev. 21:9-10, “… I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife… and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God”) then it only stands to reason that Satan’s counterfeit of the Church — the “Babylonian Harlot” — would also be associated with a city of her own. From the preponderance of the evidence that we are given throughout Scripture, the desert “harlot” identified by John in Revelation 17 is associated with the epicenter of Islam itself. Whereas the Judeo-Christian faith arose out of and looks toward Jerusalem, Islam arose out of and looks toward the city of Mecca, the spiritual homestead of the “Ummah” (the Muslim world). And if the “Judeo-Christian Bride” of Scripture is also defined as the “Body of Christ”, whose body does the antithetical “Babylonian Harlot” make? …

Revelation 17:1, “Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, ‘Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters …'”

Mystery Babylon Is Mecca, NOT Vatican

By Walid Shoebat – “When it comes to Mystery Babylon, the common tendency amongst many Protestant theologians is to liken it to Rome. According to them, Rome is the city of seven hills. Others even equate it with Iraq, since this was home to the original Babylon. Years ago, many books were written about Saddam Hussein, who was allegedly hard at work, rebuilding Babylon. Christians gobbled up the books without truly examining the evidence. Saddam was simply rebuilding a tourist attraction where Nineveh once stood, the project was later abandoned and Saddam died on the gallows along with the prophecy books that included his name.

But when presenting a multitude of biblical evidence, people still angrily deny this interpretation because they have etched in their minds a verse or two insisting it’s still Rome, while adhering to a centuries-old theory initiated by Martin Luther. That plus today’s Catholics do not bite. In fact, a clue to the real Babylon was just presented in an article by Aaron Klein when he stated this week that:

“Forces in the Persian Gulf and Arab intelligence services have noted the establishment of Iranian missile launch sites aimed in the direction of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, according to Egyptian and Jordanian intelligence officials speaking to WND.”

Yet, no one in the prophecy arena has even raised a single red flag about the significance of this report; Iran (biblical Elam) must destroy Arabia. In Isaiah 21:9, Isaiah levels a prophetic oracle against Babylon using the same announcement in Revelation 18:1-2 and Revelation 14:8: “Babylon is fallen, is fallen”:

“The burden against Dumah” (Isaiah 21:11)
“The burden against Arabia” (Isaiah 21:13)
“All the glory of Kedar will fail” (Isaiah 21:16)

These are all in Arabia, which is destroyed by Iran “Elam” (Isaiah 21:2)

There has been an immense oversight by many in the field of biblical eschatology; that when it comes to the destruction of end-days Babylon, Scripture makes no mention of any of the ancient Babylonian cities: Nineveh, Ur, Babel, Erech, Accad, Sumer, Assur, Calneh, Mari, Karana, Ellpi, Eridu, Kish, or Tikrit. All of the literal references in Scripture are in Arabia.

The use ‘MOTHER OF HARLOTS’, while it is commonly attributed to the Vatican’s Mariology with the worship of Ishtar, history records that the worship of Ishtar ‘Kilili’, or ‘Queen of Harlots’ [1] originated from Arabia, not Rome. In fact, when Muslims roam roundabout the black stone, it is a throwback to the worship of Ishtar, whom they called Athtar and Allat.

When it comes to the Harlot woman, the Kaaba is a perfect match. The black tarp is considered by Muslims to be a woman’s dress (Kiswa) as Edward Gibbons elaborated:

“…the kuswa of the magnificent Kaaba, is what is used for clothing of a [virtuous] covering, on top of it, it is written, the Kaaba’s dressing, meaning ‘we have dressed her her dress.” [2]

Everything that the harlot is described it fits the Ka’ba; dress, pearls, jewels, gold, silver and even the blasphemies etched in silver threads with golden inlays across her attire. Just the doors of the Ka’ba alone has 280 kilograms of pure gold.

The reference to a prostitute in Revelation 17 regarding the ‘Whore of Babylon’ is no coincidence:

“And the woman (whore) was arrayed in purple and scarlet color” (v. 17)…

…resembles the near copulating with the Ka’ba’s Black Stone, which historically was dedicated to Aphrodite, the prostitute goddess that was called ‘Aphrodite Porne’ (Aphrodite the Prostitute), ‘the goddess adorned in purple’, similar to the depictions given in Revelation 17:4, which the Ka’ba has a scarlet-colored inner garment. John of Damascus notes:

“After the Hajj was preformed by Muhammad, the ‘rubbing and kissing the [of the Black Stone]…was extremely passionate.’”

Muslim tradition even perpetuates the blasphemy that:

“Abraham had sexual intercourse with Hagar on it” (Sahas. Heresy, Pages 88-89).

Francis Burton writes regarding the Ka’ba:

“the part of the cover (Kiswa), covering the door, is called [a Burka] just like the veil the Arabic women are wearing in front of their face…in fact, Arab mystics even compare the Ka’ba to a virgin, adorned with her finest wedding dress.” (Vol 3, page 295)

Even today during their Hajj pilgrimage, Muslims kiss, rub and caress the Black Rock.

Furthermore, it is impossible to even consider that Isaiah 21 was referring to an historic battle between Persia and ancient Babylon since the multiple references throughout are not connected to ancient Iraq but to Kedar, Tema, Dedan and Dumah, which are all in Saudi Arabia near Yathrib (Medina), and today is known as ‘Dumat el-Jandal.’ Dumah, one of the sons of Ishmael, is also associated with Edom and Seir in Isaiah 21:11. It is believed by many that Kedar, Ishmael’s son, is the line from which Muhammad descended.

Even Muslims recognize when they read Isaiah 21, they see Isaiah 21:14-15 as the story of Muhammad when the Muslims emigrated from Mecca to Medina (Tema) in which they were fed and rescued from the sword. No westerner was able to interpret:

“The inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him that was thirsty, they prevented with their bread him that fled. For they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.” (Isaiah 21:14-15)

The Bible depicts that in this time, it will not be like the time when Muhammad fled; all Arabia – including the Glory of Kedar (Mecca) – will be destroyed. How else can anyone interpret:

“No Arab will pitch his tent there, no shepherd will rest his flocks there” (Isaiah 13:20)

Arabs pitch tents in Arabia, not Rome. The ultimate fulfillment of this verse is the destruction of the Last-Days Babylon. We know this because the passage speaks about: ‘the day of the Lord’ (v. 9) with the ‘heavens not giving light’ (v. 10). This is not historical, but End-Times related.

Then we have the Red Sea:

“The earth is moved at the noise of their fall, at the cry the noise thereof was heard in the Red sea.” (Jeremiah 49:21)

The Red Sea is a geographic indicator as to where the Last-Days Babylon will be located. Look at Mecca on any map and you will see that it sits near the Red Sea. Some may object, saying that Jeremiah 49 is speaking about Edom, which was primarily located in modern day Jordan. Yet, in Ezekiel 25, ‘Edom’ stretches from Teman (Yemen) to Dedan (Saudi Arabia)” (v. 13). Greater Edom included all of the west coast of the Arabian Peninsula.

Notice the description of her destruction:

“‘As Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown, along with their neighboring towns,’ says the LORD, ‘so no one will live there; no man will dwell in it,’” (Jeremiah 49:18).

It is no surprise that Iran is focused on Saudi Arabia, since the Bible predicted that the harlot is destroyed by the beast she rides, that is, the nations she deceieved with her spiritual harlotry—Islam.

This is the first installment in a two-part (maybe more) series about prophecy.

Interesting. Could motivation for Iran to destroy Saudi Arabia be out of Shiite revenge for Sunni atrocities (Iran being Shiite, Saudi Arabia being Sunni)? Or envy of Saudi Arabia’s wealth and stability through its co-operation with the USA?

Very interesting article and very perceptive. I fully agree with Walid’s comment “There has been an immense oversight by many in the field of biblical eschatology.” There certainly has and events are moving rapidly along in the Middle East. It will play out before our very eyes and who is awake? Who is watching?
“Yet, no one in the prophecy arena has even raised a single red flag about the significance of this report” referring to the quote from Aaron Klein early in the article, there is one man who has been raising a red flag for some time now; his name is Mark Davidson.
I urge you all to read his very good book called “Hidden In Plain Sight, The Signposts Of The Coming Of The Antichrist.” Mark goes into the prophecies concerning Iran, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the whole Middle East. It is available from his website at This site is well worth a visit. His book should be read and his message should be heeded..

Wow. Walid hits it out of the park with this one. Can’t wait to read further installments. As for Iran’s motivation, a prime example is SA’s support of rebels in Syria attempting to overthrow Assad. Iran is furious about this.

They’re also furious with Hamas for supporting the rebels. Iran has cut off nearly all of their funding.

Perhaps I’ve overlooked the obvious, but I do not see “… the woman (whore) was arrayed in purple and scarlet color” (v. 17)” (ka’ba refered to in this article) as being dressed in these colors. The kiswa covering is black.

Hi Grace, the Kaaba is merely a physical representation or manifestation as it were of the symbolic harlot. This harlot is a counterfeit and a perversion of the Bride of Christ (the Lamb’s wife), and is described symbolically by John in Revelation 17. Whereas the Bride of Christ is described as “a bride adorned for her husband” (Rev 21:2) who is filled with “the glory of God” and is “like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal” (Rev 21:11), the harlot counterfeit of the Church is “full of names of blasphemy” and described by John as being “arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness” (Rev 17:3-4). What John is describing here is the Ummah of Islam, the greatest of all harlots that the world has ever seen or will ever see, a harlot which regards itself as “royalty” as it were that must be treated and revered as such over all the kingdoms of the earth. This describes Islam perfectly.

You have confused the “New Jerusalem, coming out of heaven” with the ancient city which Jesus predicted would be left desolate and destroyed, which occurred in 70 AD.
Also, their is no Judeo-Christian faith, just as there is not connection with the beliefs of either and Islam, even though they all claim the same ancestry. Read what St. Paul says on the matter in the letter to the Romans.

Hi rightwingnutsandbolts, thank you for your reply.

rightwingnutsandbolts, “You have confused the ‘New Jerusalem, coming out of heaven’ with the ancient city which Jesus predicted would be left desolate and destroyed, which occurred in 70 AD.”

There is no confusion, nor does the New Jerusalem change the fact that earthly Jerusalem is still the city of YHWH from where Christ will rule for a thousand years after His promised return.

rightwingnutsandbolts, “their is no Judeo-Christian faith, just as there is not connection with the beliefs of either and Islam, even though they all claim the same ancestry.”

There absolutely is a “Judeo-Christian faith”. It is called the faith of Abraham (See Romans 4 and Galatians 3). What ever it was that God showed Abraham — whether it was the redemptive plan of God displayed in the stars or the simple fact that God told Abraham his offspring would be as numerous as the stars themselves — in what Abraham believed is not the point, but rather in whom Abraham believed. Abraham believed in the Lord when he was told to look toward the heavens. Muslims will claim that Islam is the faith of Abraham, but it is not. Muslims do not regard the God of their fathers (Abraham and Ishmael, cf. Dan 11:37) for they reject YHWH and His plan for Salvation.

Isaiah 12:2-4, “Behold, God is my salvation. I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD, the LORD, is my strength and song; and he has become my YESHU’AH. Therefore with joy you shall draw water out of the wells of YESHU’AH. In that day you will say, ‘Give thanks to the LORD! Call on HIS NAME. Declare his doings among the peoples. Proclaim that HIS NAME is exalted!’”

Isaiah 62:11, “Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy YESHU’AH cometh; behold, HIS reward [is] with HIM, and HIS work before HIM.”

Notice the Hebrew word for “salvation”. Isaiah is referring to Messiah, to the Hebrew name of Jesus: Yeshu’ah (Yeshua, Yahshua). Isaiah is referring to a HIM. Isaiah is pointing forward to Messiah Yeshu’ah.

Matthew 1:21, “She shall bring forth a son. You shall call his name YESHUA, for it is HE who shall save HIS people from their sins.

John 4:14, “… whoever drinks of the water that I [YESHUA] shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

Revelation 22:12, “And behold, I [YESHUA] am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.”

The Gospel — the “Good News” of the Promise of YHWH — was taught to the children of Israel in the Old Testament, which is to have complete faith in God, for it was He who was their hope (cf. Genesis 3:15). Prior to the coming of Yeshua, they looked forward to the Messiah, whereas we look back to the Messiah today, now that He has come. The focus has always been, and will forever be, faith in YHWH and His Messiah (His Anointed One, Yeshua, His “Salvation”). HE is our Salvation.

You may say that “there is no Judeo-Christian faith”, but the fact of the matter is that the Old and New Covenants were administered by Jews. Paul (Sha’ul) was a Jew (Acts 21:39, “Paul said, ‘I am a Jew of Tarsus in Cilicia'”). Notice what he, as a Jew, explains for us in 1 Corinthians 10:1-4:

1 Corinthians 10:1-4, “Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ [Messiah].”

Was the Messiah not the Savior of Old Testament believers as well? Yes, Yeshua was their Savior. That Rock was their Salvation. The faith of Old Testament believers is the same faith that we have today — in Messiah, Jesus. In fact, Paul also writes in the epistle of Hebrews the following:

Hebrews 3:16-4:3a, “For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, [was it] not all who came out of Egypt, [led] by Moses? Now with whom was He angry forty years? [Was it] not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness? And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard [it]. For we who have believed do enter that rest …”

So again, faith in the Messiah of the children of Israel today (what we often call “Christianity”) is therefore 100% Jewish just as the Old Covenant is 100% Jewish. It is not a departure from Judaism. The entire Bible is Jewish and it is Gentiles who are brought into fulfilled Judaism — not the other way around — by being grafted into the Jewish paradigm, into one Olive Tree, not into a Gentile paradigm or a separate “tree”.

Romans 4:17-21, “As it is written: ‘I have made you a father of many nations.’ [Abraham] is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not. Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, ‘So shall your offspring be.’ Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what He had promised.”
