‘Time Is Running Out’: US Congressman Asks Why Churches In The West Are Silent On Worldwide Christian Persecution

I can think of a few reasons why: It’s convenient to ignore an inconvenient topic. It makes many comfortable Christians uncomfortable. And if the truth were made known it could even cause some of them to begin questioning a few of the popular doctrines currently being taught by the church today which are, for many Christians in the West, unquestionable …

By Lillian Kwon, Christian Post Reporter – “Congressman Frank Wolf, who has been a champion of human rights, is hard pressed to understand why U.S. churches are silent when it comes to advocating for persecuted Christians.

The Republican Virginia rep. specifically called out big-name pastors such as Rick Warren and John Piper for their non-activity, especially at a time when Christians and other religious minorities in Syria and Egypt are at greater risk for persecution.

‘The church in the West is relatively silent,’ Wolf said on ‘The Janet Mefferd Show’ this week. ‘Where are the (Dietrich) Bonhoeffers (20th century German Lutheran pastor who stood against Nazi dictatorship)? Where’s Rick Warren? Where’s John Piper? Where are the people? Why aren’t they speaking out on this?

‘I just have a hard time wondering why more in the West are not speaking out.’

Since last year, Wolf has been pushing for a special envoy at the State Department that would focus exclusively on the plight of religious minorities in South Central Asia and the Middle East. While his legislation (H.R. 440) passed in the House last year, it has been on hold in the Senate.

According to Wolf, the State Department urged Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) to oppose the Senate version of the bill until a hearing is held.

Wolf said he welcomes the hearing but Sen. John Kerry, chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, has never held it.

‘I am concerned that time is running out – both in terms of the legislative calendar for this year and in terms of the plight of these communities,’ Wolf said in a statement last week.

Some 8 million Coptic Christians in Egypt are living in fear, he said, as the Muslim Brotherhood majority government drafts its new constitution, which is expected to have Islamic Sharia law as its foundation.

Tens of thousands of people have been killed in Syria where Sunni Muslim rebels are targeting Christians, forcing many to flee the region.

‘I’m not surprised that the Obama administration is opposed to this (legislation) but where’s the church in the West?’ Wolf lamented. ‘I would’ve thought the church would’ve just been up in arms.’

‘We have no one advocating for them (religious minorities),’ he added. ‘The Coptic Christian community can’t understand why the West doesn’t advocate.'” Source – Christian Post.

Amen! I had forgotten about Dietrich Bonhoeffer, I have quoted Pastor neimoller from time to time, and why aren’t the church’s shouting it from the rooftops. These emergent, feel good church’s like Rick warren and Joel Osteen who would rather preach prosperity gospel so as not to offend anyone, are dangerous. And they are misleading people. Mathew 7:21 Not everyone who says to me Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven…….. They are walking a very fine line. Thanks for the update, I’m sharing on facebook, and maybe give a call to my representative, anything to bring this to light. Continuing to pray for all brother’s and sister’s in the middle east and africa. God bless.

Iamnotashamed Very well said! It is a travesty of justice and I consider it an act of treason of sorts, that Christians are so silent, saying and doing nothing. They’re happy to stay in their little box of comfortable and if it gets a little too serious, better not talk about it. Even on my own FaceBook, when I post Raymond Ibrahim’s monthly report of Christian persecution by Muslims, nobody comments, nobody LIKEs…not even a mouse-click of interest from anyone, not even from my own church congregation. I just don’t understand it.

But you can rest assured that some are reading it and are even visiting the various links. Keep posting/sharing articles on Facebook. Together all of us are spreading the word one post, one story, one link at a time …

I agree. On Facebook I hardly ever post personal or family stuff. but about every day or two I post an article about the persecution of the church or the rise of Islam – no comments. But I just posted on my sons football game and got 20 responses, so I know people are at least seeing my posts, if not reading the links. Keep sharing the truth in the clearest and love -filled way you can. I think people are afraid of what others will say or think of them when their posts are read.

Chrislamic Rick Warren is popular with BHO. Joel Osteen is another smiley face with nothing to hear. In 2009, John Piper made a scathing video against the egregious precedent’s (sic) decree to provide free abortions. Shortly later, Piper seemed to had fallen off the earth and didn’t resurface until about 2 years ago, but it seems he had lost the fire in his belly. Was he ‘re-educated’ and his family threatened?
I doubt another Bonhoeffer will appear. At best, a Niemoeller will enter after the dust settles.
About 600,000 of us signed the Manhattan Declaration in 2009. I expected there would have been 5 to 8 million signers. Many of them asked the organization to delete there names from the list. I estimate that serious Christians make up about 3 to 4% of our population. JHVH is also disappointed. Therefore, we will not see a leader with the stature of Kings Jehoshaphat, Hezekiah, or Josiah. Read 2 Chronicles 20, especially 20:17 and the last chapter of Malachi.

I missed your comment. However, my thoughts seem aligned with yours. I know too many ‘Christians’ who do not believe the world is burning in the great tribulation NOW. These doubters are the Darby followers of the document of ‘pre-trib rapture’. These lost sheep are tantamount to the 5 foolish virgins. When they discover the trib is actually here, they will ask their smooth talking pastors why they have not been swooped up into the cloud to heaven. Not prepared with a strong faith, they will be in jeopardy of accepting the antichrist’s slick tongue and its filthy mark.

If someone is truly in Christ, how they view the timing of the rapture has no bearing in my opinion on whether they will be deceived by Antichrist and into taking the “Mark”, especially if the political and religious ideology of Antichrist, the Beast and the Mark itself are inextricably linked to Islam. Every pre-trib / pre-wrath / post-trib believer I know understands the evil nature of Islam and will not be deceived into believing its lies.

While that is true ICA, what they believe in the timing of the rapture is not a salvation issue, what keeps me up at night is the amount of people that I’ve come into contact with that lean toward islam worshiping the same God, and I fear if they don’t know the truth, when their false jesus comes, they will run to him and inadvertantly take the mark. This is why I harp so much on people studying their Bible and knowing the truth and the sound of the Messiah’s voice. I ran across a family member the other day who didn’t know what the Lion of Judah was, and this was a middle aged, raised in church person. This is what I’m talking about. Satan is very clever and he know’s that Christians wouldn’t bow to him, so he’s created this delusion. Praying for God to open eyes to the truth. And your absolutely right, on my facebook page, someone (a family member) actually posted “Facebook is not for relgion it’s for nonsense. But I keep plugging on, even if just one person reads and see’s the truth than it’s worth it. God Bless all.

There is certainly a segment who believe that Christianity and Islam worship the same God. The words of the Lord from Hosea 4:6a come to mind, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me …” I hope that we can reach as many of those as possible and lead them to be truly in Christ, and in Christ alone.

How many faces of evil? Nearly infinite. How long will our living God tolerate the constant dripping of abomination into His righteous goblet?
“And you [we] shall tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your [our] feet, on THE DAY when I [JHVH] act, says the LORD of hosts.” From Malachi 4:4.

I think you are totally correct – I also think with the churches (many) there is an anti-Semitic side to this as well as in a round about way Israel is involved in everything Middle Eastern – another issue I think is that they are Copts or Assyrian Christians and not recognized by the larger Christian community – turf protection after all they are not for the most part Baptists, Lutherans, Anglicans, United’s, Pentecostals etc

I found this great quote linked to Dietrich Bonhoeffer (my spelling is bad) anyway it say’s it all!

“Jesus Christ lived in the midst of his enemies. At the end all his disciples deserted him. On the Cross he was utterly alone, surrounded by evildoers and mockers. For this cause he had come, to bring peace to the enemies of God. So the Christian, too, belongs not in the seclusion of a cloistered life but in the thick of foes. There is his commission, his work. ‘The kingdom is to be in the midst of your enemies. And he who will not suffer this does not want to be of the Kingdom of Christ; he wants to be among friends, to sit among roses and lilies, not with the bad people but the devout people. O you blasphemers and betrayers of Christ! If Christ had done what you are doing who would ever have been spared’ (Luther).”

Are any of you expecting the entity in the blight house will proclaim to give asylum to several million persecuted Christians from the MENA? However, there may be a kink in the pipeline leading to America. The ‘oppressed immigrants’ will look like aliens (OK), walk like aliens (uh-hum), and talk like the alien agent in the blight house (Wha,,,?).
OMG, the aliens’ religion is exactly like the egregious precedent’s. Wow! Ain’t that a coincident? Oh yeah, I recall the ‘One’ had made a promise to the Saudis (or the Egyptians) to import 100 million muslimes to Amerika by the end of its second term as ‘president’. Why would a patriotic occupant in the offal office honor such a ‘bone headed’ decision? Go figure.

There are two Utubes that answer the question: The first one is Satanic signs and the second is Bloodlines. Watch how these signs are used by our leaders. Know that this a time when many are deceived for lack of knowledge.

our church has hosted “voice of the martyrs” several times… just because nobody has heard us doesn’t mean that we have been “silent”… the church has been marginalized by the dominant culture in such a way that the church’s voice is not audible… and most of what we see in the media does not represent the body of Christ…
