By Trevor Greenway, Metro News – “An Ottawa real estate agent is facing two counts of attempted murder after he allegedly attacked his wife and daughter in a domestic dispute that sent the pair to hospital with ‘serious traumatic injuries’ late Saturday.

Labib Khawas, 55, appeared in court via video link Monday as the attempted murder charges were read to him. He stood motionless and only mumbled a broken ‘yes,’ when the judge asked him if he understood.

Paramedics responded to Khawas’ upscale home at 66 Links Rd. near the Canadian Golf and Country Club around 11:15 p.m. Saturday night for a domestic assault. When they arrived, they treated Khawas’ wife Dianne and his 20-something daughter Jenna for serious injuries.

Paramedics would not confirm or deny reports that Jenna had her finger sliced off with a butcher knife and Dianne was slashed in the neck. The couple has another daughter Nadia and another university-aged son named Adam. Neither was injured.

A neighbour in the upscale Ashton neighbourhood who wouldn’t give his name told Metro that Khawas is of Muslim faith, while his wife, originally from Sudbury, converted to the religion.
