An Ottawa imam has denounced the terrorist attack on a Paris weekly newspaper that killed 12 people, but he says satirical cartoons of religious leaders should be illegal.

Imtiaz Ahmed, an imam with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, said it should be against the law to publish cartoons that depict religious figures in a derogatory way.

“Of course we defend freedom of speech, but it has to be balanced. There has to be a limit. There has to be a code of conduct,” Ahmed said.

“We believe that any kind of vulgar expression about any sacred person of any religion does not constitute the freedom of speech in any way at all.”

Ahmed said there should be limits placed on freedom of speech to prevent the publication of offensive material. He says that seems to be the case for events such as the Holocaust. Members of the public denounce those who say the Holocaust never happened.

“We don’t want the Jewish community to be hurt by these sentiments,” Ahmed says.

Ahmed said the work of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, which has been threatened for its caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, is offensive and based on lies that have “hijacked the religion of Islam.”

Instead of looking at the few “disturbed individuals” who have committed terrorist attacks, the focus should remain on Muslims who are peaceful, Ahmed said.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has opposed such illustrations in the past in a peaceful manner. Ahmed said members of the community have gone to universities to educate students about Prophet Muhammad. He has also become involved in a campaign called Stop the Crisis to tackle the radicalization of Muslim youth.

“They are very offensive, but one thing I must say: there’s not a single verse of the Prophet that allows a Muslim to take the law in his own hand and commit horrific crimes against humanity,” Ahmed said. “We denounce that.”

Five Reasons Why The Qur’an Is Not The Word Of God

The Qur’an — a book that isn’t even arranged chronologically yet teaches its readers that earlier verses have been abrogated — is not the Word of God for many different and, what should be, obvious reasons. Contrary to the claims of Muslim apologists, it is worth mentioning that archaeological discoveries suggest the Qur’an was an evolving text and not the “Word of God” that was revealed in its entirety to Mohammed. Pakistan: Muslim Man Beats Christian Mother For Protecting Daughter From Abduction And Rape

By Samuel Smith, Christian Post – “Two Christian women were aggressively beaten by a Pakistani Muslim man in the country’s capital of Lahore after the women prevented the attacker from abducting the daughter of one of the women.

According to Pakistan Christian Post, Nusrat Bibi and her sister Rani Bibi, along with their two daughters, were walking home from the local factory on an early December evening when a Muslim man approached the women and began molesting Nusrat’s daughter.

The report states that the daughter, whose age was not identified, was initially able to defend herself and make the attacker stop. However, the attacker, who has been identified as a Muslim named Khawar Khokhar, became enraged and began beating the girl with his cricket bat. He then grabbed her by the hand and warned the mother and aunt not to intervene as he attempted forcibly taking the daughter away, presumably to sexually abuse her.

However, the Bibis would not allow for the girl to be abducted without a fight. The mother and aunt were able to free the girl by coming her to her defense. However, this only enraged Khokhar even more. Khokhar then beat both Nusrat and Rani with the cricket bat. The report indicates that Nusrat, the mother of the molested girl, had received more of a beating than Rani.

The report indicates that after Khokhar was done beating Bibi, he threw her on top of a pile of garbage and he then fled the scene. Due to the altercation, both women had their clothes ripped and both sustained injuries.

As Nusrat received the brunt of the beating, she suffered a broken left arm and two broken fingers in her left hand. The injuries suffered by Rani were not identified.

As the trend of abusive hostility towards Christian women in Pakistan continues, the report states that no neighbors came to the scene to help the women fend off Khokhar, due to Khokhar’s political prestige and legal history.” Read more.

Sputnik News – “Major police operations in France have reached their climax. The Kouachi brothers, holding a man hostage at a print workshop in Dammartin-en-Goele, have been killed. Shortly after, explosions were heard at a Jewish kosher shop in Porte de Vincennes, east of Paris, as several hostages were freed.

Gunfire and several explosions have been heard at Dammartin as counter-terrorism officers initiated an assault on a print workshop where two gunmen known as the Koachi brothers have been holding a man hostage. The gunmen are responsible for the brutal attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo earlier this week.

The Daily Star – “ISIS beheaded a Syrian imam Thursday for ‘insulting God,’ an activist group said.

‘The IS executed the imam of a mosque from the village of Abu Khuyut near Hasakeh city [in northeastern Syria] at dawn Thursday,’ said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, using an alternative name for the group.

The Britain-based Observatory added that three of the man’s sons were ISIS fighters, and that it was the first time the jihadis executed a religious official for this reason.

FOX News – “French police were confronting two separate — but apparently related — hostage situations Friday, after a jihadist couple suspected of killing a cop a day earlier stormed a Paris deli, killing two and taking as many as five prisoners even as the suspects Wednesday’s massacre at a Paris satirical magazine were holed up in a printing plant 25 miles north of the city, authorities said.

Authorities feared all four suspects, who may know one another, are bent on going out as martyrs, and potentially killing hostages and police officers in the process. The fast-moving developments came as nearly 90,000 police and military personnel were deployed to bring the terror crisis that has gripped the European nation since late Wednesday morning, when a pair of brothers conducted a bloody commando-style raid on the offices of Charlie Hebdo, a weekly satirical magazine that had angered Muslim radicals by repeatedly publishing images of Prophet Muhammed.

‘Even though these guys are a bunch of savages, the negotiators are going to be trying to calm things down … the less volatile things are, the safer it is for everybody,’ James Alvarez, who has worked as a consultant for Scotland Yard and the New York Police Department, told Sky News as the dueling situations unfolded.

The hostage takers in the second case, at a kosher grocery store in eastern Paris, were identified by police as Amedy Coulibaly and Hayat Boumeddiene, a couple suspected in the murder Thursday of Paris Police Officer Clarissa Jean-Philippe as she attended to a routine traffic accident in the city.
