By Peter Goodspeed, The Star – “Born and raised a Muslim in Syria, he was given the name ‘Tarek’ in high school, when government officials wanted to enlist computer students to serve in an Internet surveillance program.

He never worked in the unit, but he has used the name to protect himself, both as a man fleeing Syria’s civil war and, more recently, as a recent convert to Christianity.

Now a refugee being sponsored by Toronto’s St. Philip Neri Catholic Parish in Downsview, Tarek* has spent more than a year waiting for his application to be processed so he can move to Canada.

But he maintains his assumed identity in Lebanon because he has been told his father and stepbrothers are determined to kill him for becoming a Christian.

‘They are searching to cut my throat,’ he says matter-of-factly. ‘I’ve been told they have hired someone to find me to get the mission accomplished.’

Tarek says he is nervous about the delays surrounding his move to Canada.

‘Sometimes, I feel in danger. Especially when I go into the streets, when I come to Beirut. You never know if someone is looking for you.

‘I’m living in a place where the majority are Muslims. So whenever I go to church on Sunday, they would know I’m Christian. So I don’t say anything about my religion, and when I go to mass, I say I am going to English classes because I plan to travel.’ …

‘… before the unrest had started in Syria I was secretly studying Christianity. A lot of my friends were Christians and I’d begun taking instruction from a priest.

‘You are not allowed to convert in Syria. It is not allowed by law at all. I used to go to the priest to talk to him. I was interested to know more. I liked it, and after what happened in Syria, I decided to convert. It was the priest’s advice for me to get out and go to Lebanon.’

When he arrived in Beirut, he spent another two months continuing to receive instruction in the Catholic faith before deciding to get baptized.

‘On the day that I was baptized, I was wondering if it was a good decision and I was asking God to help me understand what to do. That night, I had a dream I was praying on the top of a mountain and the whole sky crumbled and I heard a voice saying: ‘God is with you. Don’t be afraid.’

When he finally does arrive in Toronto, Tarek will reassume his original identity, but he wants to adopt his baptismal name, John.

‘I believe it will be a new beginning for a new life,’ he says. ‘It’s a new dream. I’m optimistic, no matter how long it takes. It will be solved in the end.'” Read more.

The Mufti, who also called for destroying churches in the Arabian Peninsula, is descended from Mohammed Wahhab who gave birth to Wahhabism and whose descendants have controlled the Saudi religious establishment, and through it Islam around the world.

However for all his power and influence, the Mufti is blind and hasn’t seen a thing in the last half century years; an apt metaphor for his entire religion.

Saudi Arabia, the heartland of Islam, still tries and executes witches. What sort of religion can come out of a place that marries off ten year old girls and murders old women on charges of witchcraft? The sort that flies planes into skyscrapers, murders teenage girls for using Facebook and bases its entire society on a ladder with Muslim men at the top, Muslim women a few rungs below and everyone else somewhere at the bottom.

The Saudis are not an aberration, they are Islam in its purest and truest form. That is why Al Qaeda was founded by a Saudi and why Saudis, the wealthy citizens of a wealthy kingdom, are its best recruits. It is not poverty or oppression that moves them to kill, but wealth and privilege.

This is where Islam originated, whose brutality and cunning spread it across the world, whose clans killed each other, then killed or enslaved minority groups, and then embarked on a wave of conquest that destroyed countless cultures and left behind the seeds of hate of the wars we are fighting today.

Unlike Egypt or Syria, they were never colonized by European powers and the impact of Ottoman influence was limited. Oil has brought in massive amounts of money, but it has changed very little. There are limousines instead of camels, the slaves have foreign passports, though they are often still slaves, there is still a brisk trade in imported luxury goods, harems for princes and clans staggering under the weight of their indolent progeny.

Religiously, Wahhabism has done its best to recreate the ‘pure’ Islam of its origins. Economically, oil has allowed the Gulf Arabs to prosper without reform or change. And if Mohammed were to ride out of the desert tomorrow, he would have little trouble fitting in, as soon as he developed a taste for Porsches. Anyone who wants to see the world as it was in Mohammed’s day can visit Saudi Arabia and see inbred clans, slave labor, veiled women and thugs enforcing the will of Allah on every corner.

But you don’t even need to visit Saudi Arabia because diluted forms of it can be found everywhere from Cairo to London and from Islamabad to Los Angeles. A hundred and fifty years after the United States freed its slaves, Muslim immigrants have brought back slavery, importing young girls to live as their slaves. Ninety years after American women won the right to vote, the ghosts of Islam tread the streets in sheets that hide their personhood and mark them as property.

By Ryan Mauro, The Clarion Project – “A shocking video has been posted online showing a Muslim-American in the Houston area pledging allegiance to the Islamic State terrorist group in front of a police officer while being escorted away from a mosque.

The video was uploaded September 21 by a man who goes by the names of Abdul-Rahman Baghdadi or Houston Baghdadi.

Baghdadi describes himself as an ‘Islamic Chaliphate [sic] State Fact Reporter’ and identifies his locations as Houston, Las Vegas and Chicago on Twitter. He sent out a tweet describing himself as an ‘early student,’ indicating that he may be a recent convert to Islam.

The video shows Baghdadi wearing pro-Islamic State attire at a mosque with a friend. The mosque is not specifically identified but is referred to by the acronym of ‘ISGH,’ presumably the Islamic Society of Greater Houston.

The footage shows a police officer arriving at the mosque and a Muslim man complaining about Baghdadi. As he is escorted away, Baghdadi turns to his partner and requests, ‘In front of the police officers, will you please record this?’

He then raises his hand and pledges allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State terrorist group (more commonly known by the acronyms of ISIS or ISIL). The officer responds, ‘I don’t know what that means.’

‘He’s the caliph of the Islamic State,’ Baghdadi explains as the police officer walks away.

Baghdadi writes that the Muslim man in the footage ‘kicks me out constantly for NO REASON Even when I didn’t wear what I was wearing [the logo of the Islamic State].’

Another incident at the ISGH mosque was also recorded and uploaded. It shows an enraged man telling Baghdadi to never return to the premise and that he will be charged with trespassing if he does.

Baghdadi also uploaded a series of videos on October 12 showing a confrontation at the El-Farouq mosque in Houston. It begins when he approaches Muslim schoolchildren eating lunch and corrects them for eating with their left hand, a violation of sharia law.” Read more.
