Thousands Flee As ISIS Caliphate Launches New Wave Of Attacks Against Christians In Northern Iraq

The Daily Star – “Jihadists have launched fresh attacks on Christian areas in north Iraq, sparking a new wave of displacement, the country’s Chaldean patriarch and witnesses said Wednesday.

Towns shelled in the past few days by Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) militants include Tal Kayf, Bartella and Qaraqosh, according to Christian sources.

The towns are among many in the area where thousands of Christians who were forced to abandon their homes in the main northern city of Mosul last month had found refuge.

Some of them are less than 50 kilometers away from Arbil, the capital of the autonomous region of Kurdistan.

Chaldean patriarch Louis Sako said at least one man had been killed by mortar fire, naming him as Lajin Hekmat, an employee of the main church in Tal Kayf, just north of Mosul.

A resident of Tal Kayf, Hanna Aziz Paulus, confirmed that the town had been targeted by shelling.

The town of Bartella had also been attacked by the jihadists, sparking an exodus, according to Sako.

‘Bartella has seen the flight of many families in recent days,’ he told AFP, adding the population had feared a major eruption of fighting following a jihadist offensive in the nearby Sinjar region.

Thousands of civilians, including from the Yazidi and other minorities, were forced to flee their homes at the weekend when ISIS militants ousted Kurdish peshmerga forces there.

Sako said he had this week sent a new message to Pope Francis demanding urgent mobilisation to protect one of the world’s oldest Christian communities.

‘Christians are isolated, afraid and aware that in the face of such a sudden development, anything can happen,’ the patriarch said in his message.” Source – The Daily Star.

Eight years ago, after Benedict XVI gave his controversial Regensburg address, most European commentators were shamefully timid in their response. In the light of this continuing cowardly silence, it is timely to remind ourselves of the ugly face of Islamic fundamentalism.

At the darkened heart of radical Islam is what Bishop Nazir-Ali, the former Anglican Bishop of Rochester, has called a ‘dual psychology … of victimhood, but also the desire for domination.’ In my own homeland numerous new mosques have sprung up across the country, many of which are being staffed by fundamentalist clerics. Such extremism seems to flourish in the pluralistic climate of so-called multiculturalism and has contributed to the alienation of so many young Muslims from the society into which most of them have lived all their lives.

The alienation works in both directions with many Britons feeling alienated from their self-ghettoised Muslim neighbours. In a recent poll, one in five Britons stated their belief that ‘a large proportion of British Muslims feel no sense of loyalty to this country and are prepared to condone or even carry out acts of terrorism’ and more than half of those polled considered Islam a threat. These frightening figures caused the writer and historian Niall Ferguson to conclude, with characteristic candour, that a terrorist attack could be ‘the trigger for the next English civil war.’ Since Ferguson also stated that he suspected a terrorist attack as being ‘bound to happen … sooner or later,’ he was effectively saying that England has a loaded weapon pointed at its head, with the trigger poised.

It is quite revealing when US states that have the highest number of mosques also have the highest number terror-affiliated Islamist organizations. Naturally, more mosques means more Muslims, and the fact that an increase in the Muslim population sees a direct correlation with an increase in the number of terror-affiliated entities is — contrary to the white-washed drivel often spouted by the likes of CAIR and regurgitated by their politically-correct enablers —  proof in and of itself that Islam does indeed have something to do with Islamic terror …

The idea that the Muslim residents of Dearborn were ‘disproportionately targeted for watchlisting’ because of some official ‘racism’ and ‘Islamophobia’ is howlingly absurd. There is jihad activity among Muslims, including in the U.S., and so for authorities to be alert to that fact is entirely reasonable.

Among the U.S. cities that have the most residents on the government’s terrorist watch list is one that stands out because of its comparatively small population: Dearborn.

Dearborn, a suburb of Detroit, was described by The Intercept, an online news site that reports on issues of national security, as having the second-highest concentration of people designated by the government as “known or suspected terrorists.”

The report said that Dearborn’s ranking, just behind New York City and ahead of Houston despite their significantly larger populations, has to do with its concentration of Arab and Muslim Americans.

Dearborn has the largest percentage of Arab Americans in the country, according to the report.

“At 96,000 residents, Dearborn is much smaller than the other cities in the top five, suggesting that its significant Muslim population—40 percent of its population is of Arab descent, according to the U.S. Census Bureau—has been disproportionately targeted for watchlisting,” the report said.

The top five U.S. cities on the watchlist for “known or suspected terrorists” are:
