Solar Flares Disrupt Communications On Earth, Could Send Shockwave On Friday The 13th

By Colleen Curry, ABC News – “The sun has had three major solar flares on its surface in the past two days that have affected communications on Earth and could send a shockwave through Earth this Friday, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The ‘solar events’ caused brief blackouts in high frequency communications when they struck, twice on Tuesday morning and once this morning, all between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. EDT.

Solar flares are bursts of radiation on the sun’s surface. The disturbance to Earth’s atmosphere can disrupt GPS and communications signals, according to NASA.

One of the flares created a ‘coronal mass ejection’ that actually could come into contact with Earth on Friday, according to NOAA. The ejection is essentially a huge cloud of plasma that could hit the Earth and cause a shock wave, affecting communications systems. If an ejection were to hit Earth on Friday, scientists expect it would only cause a minor geo-magnetic storm, according to NOAA.

The flares were observed by NASA, which posted stunning photos and videos of the events on its website.” Source – ABC News.

Nigeria: More Churches Burned, More Lives Lost For The Glory Of “Allah” In Plateau State

Nigeria News – “No fewer than 11 people, among whom were five security operatives, were said to have been killed when gunmen attacked Gako and Tanjol communities in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Two churches were also burnt in the attack, said to have been carried by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The incident, said to have occurred around 5am on Wednesday, came less than 24 hours after the Ardo of the Fulani in Riyom, Alhaji Mohammad Adamu, alleged that gunmen suspected to be Berom youths, attacked the herdsmen cattle, killing 60 and seriously injuring 35.

Executive Director, Stefanos Foundation, Mr. Mark Lipdo, said the villagers had received intelligent report that some Fulani had arrived Mahanga, a remote Fulani community in Riyom, where the military had carried out an operation to rid the area of arms following the July 7, 2012 attack which killed over 100 people, including the Senator, representing Plateau North, Dr. Gyang Dantong.

He said prior to this, the villagers had also received information that the Fulani herdsmen had met on May 9 to strategise on the attack and the following day, around 12noon, over 10 vehicles, loaded with suspected militants, arrived in the area.

In a text message to our correspondent, Lipdo said, ‘Information says right now, 5am, 11/06/14, there is an attack by Fulani against Tanjol of Jol community in Riyom LGA. On 10/06/14 intelligent reports said Fulani herdsmen arrived in Guava ( Mahanga) village of Riyom. The attack has now begun, but response to information has not been impressive.’

He said the villagers reported that two civilians and five military men in uniform were killed, while churches and several houses were razed down.

Media/Communication Officer of the Special Task Force, Capt. Ikedichi Iweha, confirmed the incident. He however said no security agent was killed in the attack.

He said the STF personnel had been mobilised to maintain peace in the troubled community, adding that the task force would make a statement after assessing the situation

Also the Police Public Relations Officer, Dominic Esin, confirmed that only six people were killed.

He did not make any mention of security agent killed in the attack, adding that five others were injured.” Source – Nigeria News.

By Rick Moran, American Thinker – “The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria – the terrorist group that has seized the Iraqi city of Mosul and is now driving toward Baghdad – has now carved out a ‘nation sized’ area that ‘stretches from the eastern edge of the Syrian city of Aleppo to Fallujah in western Iraq – and now also includes the northern Iraqi city of Mosul,’ says the Washington Post. Their goal is to establish a new Caliphate – and they’re well on the way of doing so.

The fall of Mosul to the extremists on Tuesday, after the apparent collapse of Iraqi security forces there, offers only the latest example of the extraordinary resurgence of the militant organization in the past 2½ years, aided to a large extent by the vacuum of authority in neighboring Syria.

The al-Qaeda in Iraq organization that confronted U.S. troops has since renamed itself to reflect its expanded activities in Syria, and it has fallen out with the al-Qaeda leadership. It has also become a far more lethal, effective and powerful force than it was when U.S. forces were present in Iraq.

“This is a force that is ideologically motivated, battle hardened and incredibly well equipped,” said Douglas Ollivant of the New America Foundation, who advised the Obama and George W. Bush administrations on Iraq, served two tours of duty in that country and has business interests there. “It also runs the equivalent of a state. It has all the trappings of a state, just not an internationally recognized one.”

ISIS owes its resurrection in no small part to the chaos in Syria, where large swaths of territory in areas bordering Iraq were falling out of government control just as U.S. troops were leaving, Ollivant said.

Most of ISIS’s expansion has come in the past year, however, after the group’s Iraqi leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, announced its new mission in Syria and began recruiting across the northern and eastern parts of the country that were under rebel control. ISIS lured into its ranks the bulk of the thousands of foreign volunteers, some from Europe and the United States, who have streamed into Syria to wage jihad, further bolstering its numbers.

The group’s exact strength is not known, but Aymenn al-Tamimi, who monitors jihadist activity for the Middle East Forum, said its swift takeover of Mosul at a time when it is also fighting on other fronts suggests that it has a larger force than the 10,000 or so men it is widely reported to control.

With their own state comes the ability to set up training camps and funding sources so that their terrorists can strike anywhere in the world – including the US.” Read more.

By Tova Dvorin and Ari Soffer, INN – “The Al Qaeda-linked Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) has attacked the central Iraqi city of Tikrit, security sources told BBC News Wednesday, less than 48 hours after taking over the northern city of Mosul.

The Islamists have attacked the Turkish embassy there, officials said, and are holding at least 49 people hostage. Reuters reports Wednesday evening that all 49 have been taken to an ISIS hideout and are, allegedly, unharmed; Ankara has vowed to respond if any one of the captives are harmed.

Police officials also told the British Telegraph that the group had freed some 300 inmates in a city prison there and made advances in parts of Kirkuk; local authorities have reported mass beheadings throughout the city.

Tikrit, located in Salaheddin province, is dictator Saddam Hussein’s birthplace, and is located just 150 km (95 miles) north of Baghdad.

Reports of Tikrit’s takeover surface less than 24 hours after Iraqi parliament speaker Osama al-Nujaifi predicted that the ISIS were turning south – specifically toward the Salaheddin province.

Security sources also told AFP early Wednesday evening that the Islamists have extended beyond Tikrit, now fighting Iraqi forces in Samarra.” Read more.

Church Burns In Mosul

By BosNewsLife – “Thousands of Christians and other residents began fleeing Mosul on Tuesday, May 10, after Islamic militants overran much of Iraq’s second largest city, ‘killing hundreds’ while seizing churches and government buildings.

As many as 150,000 people were trying to escape Mosul amid appeals for prayers and warning that this may be the last exodus of what was a Christian stronghold. ‘What we are living and what we have seen over the last two days is horrible and catastrophic,’ Najeeb Michaeel, a Dominican priest, wrote from Mosul.

He confirmed that gunmen of the ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIL), who are inspired by terror group al-Qaida, took over churches after pushing out security forces and capturing military vehicles.

‘The priory of Mar Behnam [Monastery] and other churches fell into the hands of the rebels this morning … and now they have come here and entered Qaraqosh five minutes ago, and we are now surrounded and threatened with death … pray for us,’ he added in comments monitored by BosNewsLife.

‘Many thousands of armed men from the Islamic Groups of Da’ash [ISIL] have attacked the city of Mosul for the last two days. They have assassinated adults and children. The bodies have been left in the streets and in the houses by the hundreds, without pity,’ he said.

‘The regular forces and the army have also fled the city, along with the governor.’ The exact death toll was not immediately clear amid confusion and chaos.

‘Christian families are terrified. I was able to make my wife and children leave Mosul, but now I am stuck in the house and can’t move,’ a Christian man reportedly said, as fighting continued.

Militants reportedly took 70 female students hostage at the University of Mosul, and took 28 Turkish truck drivers hostage in the city. About 3,000 prisoners were reported to have been freed from the main jails.

Militants also seized Mosul’s airport, television stations and the governor’s office, reporters said.

With attacks ongoing, Pastor Haitham Jazrawi suggested that the city of 1.8 million people will soon have no or very few Christians.” Read more.

By Courtney Trenwith, Arabian Business – “Saudi Arabia’s Justice Minister has defended tough Sharia punishments such as beheading, cutting off hands and lashing, claiming they ‘cannot be changed’ because they are enshrined in Islamic law.

‘These punishments are based on divine religious texts and we cannot change them,’ Mohammed Al Eissa reportedly said during a recent speech in Washington.

The minister said Islamic law had helped to reduce crime in the conservative kingdom.

Capital punishment was carried out in many other countries, including the US, and was not isolated to Islamic states, he said.

He said lashings were only given to those convicted of serious crimes related to ‘honour’, while Sharia – or Islamic – law did not approve of cutting off the hands of suspected thieves.

‘Islam sympathises with the victim, not the criminal,’ Al Eissa said.

‘Islam is a religion of wisdom that calls for dialogue with other religious faiths and peaceful coexistence with other communities. [Edit ICA: Then why is there not one single Christian church in all of Saudi Arabia?]

 By JTA – “French police are looking into reports that a gang of youths tasered a Jewish teenager in central Paris.

The National Bureau for Vigilance Against Anti-Semitism, or BNVCA, said it had contacted police based on reports in French Jewish media of the alleged assault, which according to the news site Alliance.fr happened on Tuesday on Paris’ iconic Place de La Republique square.

According to the report, a group of six black teenagers used an electric taser on a Jewish boy identified by Alliancefr.com only by his first name, Raphael. He was wearing a kippah and tzitzit and was attacked for his Jewish appearance in an apparent anti-Semitic assault, Alliancefr reported.

A passerby intervened and the gang left the scene before police could apprehend them, according to the news website. One of the gang members was armed with a club.

The report came amid a series of anti-Semitic incidents in the Paris area, including two beatings in Creteil last month and a similar incident in Sarcelles.

On Monday, Stars of David were spray-painted on several houses belonging to Jews in Gradignan near Bordeaux in southwestern France, the news site alyaexpress-news.com reported.

‘Anti-Semitic incidents are an almost daily occurrence in France,’ BNVCA President Sammy Ghozlan told JTA. ‘They are becoming more frequent and whereas the targets used to be synagogues, now there are more physical assaults on people: Young religious Jews.’

Ghozlan noted the current string of incidents could be a resurgence of anti-Semitic violence in the wake of the murder of four people on May 24 at the Jewish Museum of Belgium in central Brussels. Belgian and French authorities suspect the shooter was a 29-year-old jihadist.

‘After every major act of violence committed recently, we’ve felt an increase in attacks, including the 2012 Toulouse attack,’ Ghozlan said in reference to the murder of three children and a rabbi at a Jewish school by a Muslim radical. ‘Sadly, these murders inspire the admirers of the killers to imitate their actions.'” Read more.
