By Nicolai Sennels, Jihad Watch – “A small detail in EuroPol’s report ‘European Union Terrorism Situation and Trend Report 2014′ underlines the cowardice of the EU and the UK when it comes to confronting Islamic terrorism:

European Union (EU) Member States reported no terrorist attacks specifically classified as religiously inspired terrorism for the 2013 period. However, in at least two attacks, the role of religious radicalisation appears to be evident. On 22 May 2013, an off-duty British army soldier was murdered in the vicinity of army barracks in Woolwich, London (UK). The attackers initially used a car to run him over, before repeatedly stabbing him with bladed weapons. The two suspects – British Muslim converts of Nigerian descent – were arrested at the scene. Further arrests of their associates were made from May onwards. The assailants were self-organised but previously had links to radical Muslim groups in the UK (al-Muhajiroun and its later incarnation, the Sharia4 movement).16 One of the suspects was also believed to have attempted to travel to Somalia in the past in order to join Harakat al-Shabab al-Mujahidin (HSM, Young Mujahidin Movement). Both attackers were convicted of the murder in December 2013.

On 25 May 2013, just three days after the aforementioned attack, a French soldier was targeted in a non-fatal knife attack in La Défense near Paris (France) by an individual who converted to Islam and radicalised in an extremely short period of time.

By Alistair Scrutton, Reuters – “Sweden’s biggest security threat comes from around 200 Islamists in the country with the potential for involvement in militant attacks, including young people radicalized after joining the war in Syria, the state’s spy chief said.

Increasing Russian espionage and signs of ‘war planning’ from Moscow since the Ukraine crisis took second place in Sweden’s overall security assessment – although it did not see any increased immediate threat, Anders Thornberg said.

Sweden has long taken a standoffish position in international affairs, avoiding even the world wars of the last century. But military roles in Afghanistan and missions to Mali have undermined that formal neutrality and made Sweden more of a target, said Thornberg, who has spent over two decades at SAPO.

‘We are talking about a couple of hundred people that are supporting or are willing and capable to carry out terrorist attacks in Sweden or planning a terrorist attack in Sweden against targets in neighboring countries or other places in the world,’ Thornberg told Reuters.

Thornberg, head of the SAPO security police, said there were more radicalized Swedes involved in Syria over the past two years than in the past 10 years of other insurgent campaigns.

Several Western states have voiced concern about the risk from youths returning home trained for jihad after joining disparate rebel groups, which include foreign al Qaeda insurgents, in Syria.

‘It’s a huge threat,’ Thornberg said. ‘We have seen through the years before that a lot of people were traveling to Afghanistan, to Yemen, Somalia, other countries, learning how to do jihad.’

‘But it was over a period over 10 years. Now in just two years we have seen more people than totally in the last 10 years,’ he added. ‘We haven’t seen anything like this before.'” Read more.

Christian News Network – “In the days after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, al-Qaida became a household name. But today, other extremist Islamist groups, many in Africa, are vying for headlines.

Recently, the group Boko Haram gained international infamy after it abducted more than 250 schoolgirls. Since 2009, Christians in northern Nigeria have borne the brunt of Boko Haram violence, which has included attacks on churches, schools and government installations.

Now Libyan Christian leaders fear Boko Haram could spread its influence into their country as a result of a renegade former general’s campaign to purge the chaotic country of Islamist militants.

But Africa is home to several other extremist groups.

In the Central African Republic on Wednesday (May 28), a group known as the Seleka militia attacked a Catholic church in the capital, Bangui, where Christians were seeking refuge, killing at least 30 people.

The group emerged in September 2012, and the following year it rampaged through the country, attacking churches and missions, before overthrowing the government in March 2013. The group has since lost ground and is now involved in a cycle of revenge attacks against the pro-Christian anti-Balaka rebel group.

Somalia’s al-Shabaab has claimed attacks on churches, public places and public transportation in East Africa. The group, which got its start in 2006, began escalating the number of attacks in Kenya in 2011 when that country sent its troop to Somalia to fight the Islamists. Last week, al-Shabaab said it was shifting its war to Kenya.

Extremist groups are not unique to Africa, said Jesse Mugambi, a professor in the University of Nairobi’s department of philosophy and religious studies. Al-Qaida-related groups are on the rise in Syria and Yemen, among other spots.” Read more.

FirstPost – “The spiritual leader of the world’s Anglicans urged Pakistan to treat all people equally on Wednesday during a trip designed to show his support for the embattled Christian community, saying many felt ‘under siege’.

The Archbishop of Canterbury arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday to meet Muslim and Anglican leaders at a time when Christians feel under attack from both authorities and their Muslim neighbours due to Pakistan’s oppressive blasphemy laws.

‘There is a considerable sense of anxiety, of being under siege,’ Justin Welby, a former oil executive, told Reuters outside a church in the eastern city of Lahore.

‘There was a very clear sense that people were nervous about the misuse of the blasphemy law, as a sort of a tool of politics, a way of gaining attention, or as a mob thing,’ he added, flanked by two Pakistani bishops.

He earlier told reporters: ‘Equality under the law is very important.’

Rights activists say a spike in the number of blasphemy cases in Pakistan is evidence of rising intolerance in the mainly Sunni Muslim South Asian state of 180 million people.

Blasphemy carries the death penalty in Pakistan and cases against both religious minorities and Muslims are rising.

Christians and other minorities such as Ahmadis have often been jailed or lynched for blasphemy for allegedly making jokes to neighbours or sending text messages mocking Muslims.

‘I pray for their blessing and for the government to be favourable to seeing that this is not a group that are seeking undue advantage but are only seeking to do good,’ Welby said.

‘The message was really to say to everyone, Christians have been a powerful force for good in this country over a very long time indeed, in schooling, in hospitals.’ Christians make up about four percent of Pakistan’s population and tend to keep a low profile in a country where Sunni Muslim militants frequently bomb targets they see as heretical …” Read more.

Somalia: Islamist Attack On Village Leaves At Least 40 Dead Near Ethiopian Border

By Ayyaantuu News Online – “At least forty people are reported to have been killed in an orchestrated attack perpetrated by Al-Shabaab fighters on the village of Aato situated on the Somali-Ethiopian border in the Bakol region.

It was an early Tuesday morning when the attack was carried out by the militant fighters against a base belonging to Ethiopian Liyuu Police which was located in the village, prompting a serious battle to erupt between the Al-Shabaab fighters and the Liyuu Police as residents reported.

The commissioner responsible for the village of Aato, who addressed media outlets, commented that at least forty people had died in the attack including twenty eight troops belonging to the Ethiopian Liyuu Police and twelve Al-Shabaab fighters. ‘The Al-Shabaab fighters began their attack early in the morning and were using heavy weaponry and technicals. We lost twenty eight people and we managed to kill twelve of them’ he said.

There has been no official response from Al-Shabaab commanders, although Radio Al-Andalus, a station affiliated with the organization, claimed that they had killed thirty five Ethiopians while taking twenty weapons as booty.

The Syrian government claims that there has been extensive damage to ancient Christian sites in Maaloula, a small town where Aramaic (the language of Jesus’s time) is still spoken. It lies 35 miles north-east of Damascus, at the base of mountains rising up from the desert. There has been extensive fighting around Maaloula since last September and in April president Assad’s government forces regained control from the rebels.

Earlier this month, the Syrian directorate general of antiquities and museums published a report of a mission to Maaloula. It is difficult to verify their claims, and it is not clear who inflicted the damage, but the survey presents disturbing evidence of destruction. Many of the rebels are unsympathetic towards the country’s Christian minority. Although the government report accuses rebels of looting religious artifacts, it is possible that some may have been removed to safety.

The Rev. Paul Emile Nzale told The Associated Press that the gunfire and grenade attack took place Wednesday afternoon in a displacement camp at the Church of Fatima in Bangui, the capital.

An Associated Press reporter counted at least 20 bodies taken to a hospital in the city because the morgue was not in service.

Wednesday’s attack is the largest in Bangui blamed on Muslim rebels since their Seleka coalition left power in January.

Morning Star News – “As Meriam Yahia Ibrahim, sentenced to death for leaving Islam, gave birth early this morning in prison, another Christian woman in Sudan has been jailed for ‘apostasy,’ sources said…

In the town of El Gadarif on Sudan’s eastern border with Ethiopia, another Christian woman has been incarcerated under suspicion of having left Islam, Morning Star News has learned.

Immigration/Citizenship police questioned Faiza Abdalla, 37, as she was going to obtain her national identification number at an official building in El Gadarif on April 2, a source told Morning Star News. When she responded to officers’ questions about her religion that she was a Christian, they immediately arrested her based on her Muslim name, he said.

Her family had converted to Christianity from Islam before she was born but kept their former name, the source said.

‘They arrested me because I am a Christian,’ said Abdalla, originally from an area in Sudan’s Nuba Mountains, where her parents raised her in an evangelical church.

As happened with Ibrahim and Wani, a court on April 8 terminated Abdalla’s marriage to her husband, a lifelong Catholic from South Sudan, on grounds that she had committed ‘adultery’ by allegedly having left Islam and married a Christian. Abdalla’s husband fled the country two years ago because of persecution.

Immigration/Citizenship officials, who are responsible for issuing national IDs, routinely search for those who have left Islam to arrest and force them to return to the religion, the source said.

‘Faiza Abdalla is a Christian, and her husband is a catechist,’ said a Christian in Al Gaderif who grew up with her in the same community.

Church leaders and Christian activists in Al Gaderif went to police to ask for the release of Abdalla, without success, the source said. Church leaders in the town say they are upset by a new wave of persecution against Christians.” Read more.

Worldwide Terror: Muslims Kills More People Every 12 Hours Than Anti-Abortionists Have In The Last 40 Years

Moreover, in 2007 when Islam and Judaism’s holiest holidays overlapped for 10 days, Muslims racked up 397 dead bodies in 94 terror attacks across 10 countries while Jews worked on their 159th Nobel Prize. Throughout Islam’s 1400 year history, approximately 270 million non-Muslims were slaughtered for “Allah” and his prophet of death. Yet according to some Western “leaders” non-Muslims need to integrate more with the Muslim way of life? Preposterous. By Rachel Molschky, Cherson and Molschky – “The terror attack in China last week adds to a long list of violent killings around the world. Reading the news can be depressing with so much inhumanity and each day, more terror, more senseless killing. And there is one common thread to it all: Islam.

China is not a nation most people associate with Islam, but the ‘Uighur extremists’ responsible for the attack at a Urumqi vegetable market, which killed 43 and wounded another 90 people, are Muslim.

An Associated Press article on the attack refers to the influence of ‘religious extremism.’ While over half of the Chinese do not associate themselves with any religion at all, of those who do subscribe to a particular doctrine, the majority are Buddhist. Yet despite Buddhism’s dominance, this ‘religious extremism’ did not come from that demographic.

Christians account for around 5% of the country, but this act of ‘religious extremism’ cannot be attributed to Christianity. Nor was it Jewish, Hindu, or Taoist extremism. It was unequivocally, without a doubt, Islamic extremism; a heinous act carried out by people who come from a mere 2% of China’s total population. The people the media identifies as ‘radical separatists’ are radical Muslims.

Can we stop playing around with words and just admit the truth? As Rick Moran points out in his article on American Thinker, when Christians bomb abortion clinics or kill abortion doctors, no one pretends they are not Christian. What’s more, they are quickly identified as such, and the press does not shy away from reporting on these incidents.

These abortion doctor killers get so much press, one might think there were scores of such types of murders. Actually, there have been around eight killings, four of them doctors. That’s right. Four abortion doctors have been murdered by radical Christians, and there have been 17 attempted murders since 1977 in the US and Canada. That’s a total of 25 people either killed or nearly killed over the course of 37 years and across two countries- two very large countries with a combined population of over 350 million.

And while it’s no excuse, these are people who are targeting specific doctors, not putting bombs on random buses, spraying bullets into a crowd or hacking to death school children and burning them alive like Boko Haram.

Most importantly, the rest of the Christian community denounces such violence, and Christian doctrine does not condone murder or propagate hatred and violence. Christians may not agree with abortion, but rather than going out to abortion clinics to murder the doctors and staff, the vast majority approach the issue by trying to change the laws.” Read more.

Brigitte Gabriel said the good news is that more and more in the West are finally acknowledging the destruction radical Islam leaves in its path, but she said Americans should not hold their breath waiting for moderate Muslims to begin lashing out at extremist acts.

Gabriel grew up as a Christian in Lebanon and experienced terrorism firsthand. She is now president of ActForAmerica.org and author of ‘They Must Be Stopped: Why We Must Defeat Radical Islam and How We Can Do It.’

Al-Qaida has evolved greatly from how it functioned around the time of the terrorist attacks in September 2001. Instead of a powerful central organization, it now exists primarily as many different regional organizations spread out from east Asia to North Africa and each group largely appears to be making their own decisions.

New FBI Director James Comey recently told New York Times reporter Michael Schmidt that al-Qaida’s current strength is a major surprise.

‘I didn’t have anywhere near the appreciation I got after I came into this job just how virulent those affiliates had become,’ Comey told the Times.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper also acknowledges al-Qaida’s resilience.

Gabriel said those assessments are accurate because the U.S. hasn’t led well in the fight against radical Islam.

‘It’s because our government underestimated and did not identify the ideology behind al-Qaida,’ she said. ‘So today when we look at terrorist organizations across the globe, whether it’s Boko Haram, Al-Shabaab, you name it, Hamas, Hezbollah, etc., what brings them together is the same ideology as al-Qaida. Now it is metastasizing worldwide because we are seeing radical Islam and groups organized across the world feeling empowered to bring back and resurrect an Islamic caliphate and establish Islam as they see it in their own eyes as it was practiced in the days of Muhammad.’ …

‘We can continually dream on and on and on. Here we are, 12 years after Sept. 11, and with this thing that happened in Nigeria with the kidnapping of the schoolgirls, have you seen any demonstrations in Saudi Arabia against it, asking to bring back our girls?’ she asked. ‘Have you seen any mass demonstrations in Indonesia calling to bring back our girls? Have you seen any mass demonstration in Pakistan, in Afghanistan, in India?’
