Syria’s Future Leaders: Israel Will Still Remain an Enemy

One way or the other, prophecy is going to be fulfilled …

Isaiah 17:1-2, “An oracle concerning Damascus: ‘See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins. The cities of Aroer will be deserted and left to flocks, which will lie down, with no one to make them afraid.'”

By David Lev – “Syria’s opposition groups are getting ready for ‘the day after’ the fall of the Assad regime, and are anticipating a new, democratic regime. But some things are unlikely to change; Syria’s likely future leaders still consider Israel an enemy, and will continue to demand Israel’s withdrawal from the Golan Heights.

The two largest opposition groups in the country, the Syrian National Council and the National Coordination Body for Democratic Change in Syria (NCB), signed an agreement to establish a a transitional government that would guarantee the rights of all citizens, hold parliamentary elections, and draft a constitution that guarantees a ‘civilian pluralist parliamentary democratic system.’

The agreement also rejects any foreign intervention in Syria, and calls for the ‘protection of civilians by all legitimate means in the framework of international laws.’ The agreement also calls for ensuring fair treatment for the country’s Kurdish population.

However, the agreement makes clear that Syria will remain an enemy of Israel even after the proposed changes. The deal calls for ‘liberating Syrian territory,’ an apparent reference to the Golan Heights, which a ‘democratic’ Syria would still demand that Israel withdraw from.” Read more.

Flashback: Expert: A Threatened Assad May Attack Israel – “Middle East expert Professor Eyal Zisser warned on Monday against a possible Syrian attack on Israel, if President Bashar Assad feels threatened by the anti-regime protesters. In an interview with Arutz Sheva, Zisser said that in the short term there is no reason for particular concern, because a situation which is bad for Assad is good for Israel as this means that the Syrian president is preoccupied with his internal affairs and not with attacking Israel.” Read more.

Flashback: Syria’s Choice: Murderous Secular Regime or Islamic Fundamentalists – “As Syrian dictator Bashar Assad continues to slaughter his people, there are growing indications that the Islamists are increasing their efforts to replace his regime. What started as a secular Facebook revolution against the Assad regime is now beginning to look more like a jihad [holy war] led by Muslim fundamentalists. The Muslim Brotherhood is clearly seeking to hijack the anti-Assad protests, in both the political and military fields. In the past few months, there have been many signs of a ‘return to Islam’ in Syrian society.” Read more.

The deputy leader stressed during the interview that no Muslim Brotherhood members would ever meet with Israelis for negotiations. ‘I will not allow myself to sit down with criminals.’

Associated Press – “The latest in a series of minor earthquakes in northeast Ohio hit on Saturday, this time reaching a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale.

The tremor sent some stunned residents running for cover as bookshelves shook and pictures and lamps fell from tables.

The quake struck Saturday afternoon in McDonald, outside of Youngstown, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Area residents said a loud boom accompanied the shaking, but sheriff’s dispatchers from several counties in the area said there were no immediate reports of damage.

A few miles from the epicenter, Charles Kihm said he was preparing food in his kitchen when he heard a noise and thought a vehicle had hit his Austintown home.

‘It really shook, and it rumbled, like there was a sound,’ said Mr Kihm, 82.

‘It was loud. It didn’t last long. But it really scared me.’

The area has experienced at least 10 minor quakes in 2011, though Saturday’s temblor was stronger than others, which generally had a magnitude of 2.7 or lower.

This time, some residents reported feeling trembling farther south into Columbiana County and east into western Pennsylvania.” Read more.

Associated Press – “BEEBE, Ark – Blackbirds have fallen dead from the sky in a central Arkansas town for the second New Year’s Eve in a row.

KATV showed a radar image that it said showed a large mass over Beebe a few hours before midnight Saturday. The Little Rock television station reported that hundreds of birds had died.

Beebe animal control worker Hearst Taylor told KATV the reason for the bird deaths isn’t yet known.

Last year, fireworks were blamed for the deaths of thousands of birds. It wasn’t immediately clear if year-end celebrations are again to blame.

Beebe police imposed an impromptu fireworks ban Saturday night.

Biologists said last year’s kill was caused by the birds being rousted from their roosts and flying into homes, cars, telephone poles and each other.” Source – Fox News.

Flashback: 5000 Blackbirds Fall From Sky in Beebe, Arkansas – “Times Square had the ball drop, and Brasstown, N.C., had its descending possum. But no place had a New Year’s Eve as unusual, or freakishly disturbing, as Beebe, Ark. Around 11 that night, thousands of red-winged blackbirds began falling out of the sky over this small city about 35 miles northeast of Little Rock. They landed on roofs, roads, front lawns and backyards, turning the ground nearly black and terrifying anyone who happened to be outside. ‘One of them almost hit my best friend in the head,’ said Christy Stephens, who was standing outside among the smoking crowd at a party. ‘We went inside after that.'” Read more.
