Investor Jim Rogers: Euro Collapse ‘Will Lead to the End of the World As We Know It’

12/07/2011 Leave a comment

By Becket Adams – “‘Jim, economic collapse with the euro: will that lead to a recession?’ asks Glenn Beck.

‘That will lead to the end of the world as we know it,’ answers Jim Rogers, founder of Rogers International Commodities Index. ‘That will certainly lead to the end of the world as Washington D.C. knows it. There’s no question about that.’

But who is Jim Rogers and what does he know about the global financial situation?

For those unfamiliar with Beck’s guest, Jim Rogers is a famous American investor who, along with George Soros, founded the Quantum Fund, one of the world’s first international funds. Also, as mentioned above, he is the creator of the Rogers International Commodities Index.

He is a well-known proponent of free market capitalism, a successful author, a regular lecturer of finance at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business, and he has been a regular guest on Fox News’ ‘Cavuto on Business.’

Needless to say, he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to finances and he has repeatedly proven his keen market sense.

‘We do live in very perilous times and I hope you’re very careful and I hope you’re prepared,’ Rogers said in regards to the growing financial meltdown.

The conversation then turned to the topic of gold and the importance the precious metal may play in the near future.

‘Everybody knows what that [gold] is. You’ll be able to sell it, barter it you have to, if it gets this bad,’ said Rogers.

But what could create conditions bad enough to force someone to have to barter gold?

A total financial collapse.” Read more.

Germany Dampens Hopes as France Warns of Euro ‘Explosion’, S&P Places Entire European Union on Watch for Downgrade

12/07/2011 Leave a comment

By Michael Mainville – “Economic powerhouse Germany played down hopes Wednesday that a crucial debt summit will save the euro as French President Nicolas Sarkozy warned the risk of a eurozone ‘explosion’ was very real.

Piling the pressure on EU leaders due to meet in Brussels from Thursday, Standard and Poor’s put a number of large European banks on review and placed the European Union on watch for a downgrade of its AAA credit rating.

German officials said reaching a deal would be ‘difficult’ as US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner pressed Europe for decisive action to tackle the crisis and US President Barack Obama spoke to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

‘Europe is not out of the crisis. The risk of an explosion abounds as long as the decisions taken with Angela Merkel are not implemented,’ Sarkozy told lawmakers from his ruling UMP party, according to a participant in the meeting.

US stocks erased losses in the last hour of trade Wednesday to end mostly higher, but European stocks and the euro slid as pessimism set in.” Read more.

Downgrade threat could prove final blow to euro rescue fund – “The threat of a credit downgrade to the euro zone’s top economies leaves the bloc’s EFSF bailout fund dangerously exposed, piling yet more pressure on the European Central Bank to step in as lender of last resort. The fund has struggled to attract investors even with the backing of six AAA-rated governments, and on Tuesday S&P followed up a warning of possible downgrades for 15 euro economies by saying it is also reviewing the EFSF.” Read more.

Greeks rush to pull savings out of banks, worsening the crisis – “A Greek bank run looks to be in full swing. In an article from German magazine Der Spiegel on Tuesday, the scope of Greek bank withdrawals is shown in alarming clarity. According to Georgios Provopoulos, the governor of the central bank of Greece, savings and time deposits fell by 13 to 14 billion euros in September and October of this year. And it’s only getting worse. ‘In the first 10 days of November the decline continued on a large scale,’ Mr. Provopoulos told the economic affairs committee of the Greek parliament last month. All that money spilling out of Greek banks is creating a credit crunch that’s making lending nearly impossible.” Read more.

Claim: Giant Planet-Sized Object Next to Mercury Baffles Astronomers

12/07/2011 Leave a comment

Or does it? Nonetheless, expect the next round of cosmic conspiracy theories involving “Elenin” and “Nibiru” in 3, 2, 1 …

By TED THORNHILL – “A gigantic object the size of a planet has appeared on astronomers screens lurking near Mercury, with UFO hunters around the world wondering whether it’s an alien ship.

‘The object appears from nowhere in a sequence of images of a coronal ejection from the Sun, taken by a Nasa telescope.

As the flare races past Mercury, a huge round object appears next to it – but Nasa scientists insist that the object is merely a result of the way the images are processed.

Over 100,000 YouTube users have watched the sequence taken by the Heliospheric Imager-1 telescope.

It was uploaded by user siniXster and he says in his commentary: ‘It’s cylindrical on either side and has a shape in the middle. It definitely looks like a ship to me, and very obviously, it’s cloaked.’

However, experts say that there is no alien race hiding away in our solar system.

The image from the telescope was analysed by the United States Naval Research Laboratory, with engineer Nathan Rich explaining that the ‘object’ is actually the image of Mercury from the previous day.

To make sure that the solar flare stood out, researchers compare the image with one taken the day before and subtract anything that appears twice – because that means it’s interfering background light.

Stars are easily eliminated, but moving objects, like planets, are more difficult to remove.” Read more.

‘Real’ Christian Churches in US Forced to Go Underground Soon?

12/07/2011 1 comment

By Eryn Sun – “Christian churches in America will soon be forced to go underground if they want to stay true to their beliefs and to God, a conservative broadcast commentator warned.

Longstreet, a 30-year veteran of the broadcasting business, recently explained his opinion on the Right Side News, first clarifying that only ‘real’ Christian churches will have to do as he predicted.

‘In the past three decades, or so, many of the mainline Christian churches have slipped away from their foundation on the Holy Scriptures and adopted more and more secular tenets and leftist, politically correct, philosophy until they have become only a shadow of the true followers of Christ,’ he penned on Tuesday.

‘In my opinion, those denominations can no longer claim to be ‘Christian’ churches simply because – they are not.’

A few years ago, the U.S. Army veteran had left his own denomination for the same reasons, seeing that it had chosen to forsake the tenets of the Bible and the Good News of the Gospel.

Though he admitted that he was in no way a ‘better Christian than any other follower of Christ,’ he believed that many of the mainline denominations in America today were nothing more than social clubs with franchises nationwide.

‘Their pastors ‘preach’ feel good ‘sermonettes’ about the environment and things like ‘social justice.’ In my opinion, that is not the mission of a church that purports to follow Christ. In fact, Christ, Himself, spelled out the mission of the church in what we refer to as The Great Commission.’

The Great Commission stated in Matthew 28:18-20 reads: ‘Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’

That commission from Christ is the sole reason why the church exists today, Longstreet stressed.” Read more.

The Moon Will ‘Turn to Blood’ on December 10th for Observers Across Asia

12/07/2011 1 comment

By Amar Kapadia – “On the 10th of December, half of the world will get a chance to see earth leaving its shadow over moon during total lunar eclipse. But for India, this total lunar eclipse would be special as Indian population won’t be able to view it again for next seven years.

Dr. DP Duari, Director of Research and Academics at the MP Birla Planetarium, noted, ‘For observers in India, on December 10, the Moon will start falling under the Earth’s shadow at around 6.15 p. m. The next total lunar eclipse, visible in its entirety from India will only be after another seven years in 2018’.

The total eclipse will last for a period of approximately one hour that is from at 7:36 p. m. to 8:28 p. m. on the 15th of June as well, total lunar eclipse did occur. However, Indian population was not able to witness it because of cloudy weather.

It is expected that on 10th of December the view of eclipse would be clearer. Usually a lunar eclipse occurs when the sun is on one side of the earth and the moon on the opposite side. The moment when they align lunar eclipse occurs.

This time, the eclipse will be visible in Asia and Australia. The view would be interesting as Moon will noticeably darken and flare different colors as the Earth blocks the Sun’s rays, refracting light through its own atmosphere and coloring the Moon much like the horizon during a sunrise or sunset – a phenomenon known as Rayleigh scattering.

Lunar eclipse is interesting views which captures the mind and heart of viewers. Every year, a large number of foreigners travel from country to country to capture the beauty of eclipse. This year, as the eclipse would be visible to half of the world, it is expected that large number of foreigners will visits Asian countries.” Source – News Tonight.

UK: Please Pray for House of Lords Debate on Christians in the Middle East

12/07/2011 4 comments

Urgent prayer request from Dr Patrick Sookhdeo, International Director of Barnabas Fund

“On Friday (9 December), the UK House of Lords is holding an important and timely debate, led by the Archbishop of Canterbury, about the situation of Christians in the Middle East.

Barnabas Fund has been asked to produce a briefing paper (see below) for this debate, and I am now urgently seeking your prayers that the Lords will recognise the grave danger that Christian minorities are facing as a result of the ‘Arab Spring’. Please pray also that the Lords will exert their influence on our government so that it will press for the protection of Christians and other vulnerable groups in the region.

I have just returned from a visit to Syria, where the Christians are extremely concerned about what is happening in their country and what the future holds for them there. Also the Syrian Christians, and Iraqi Christian refugees in the country, are in considerable need, as the country’s economy is crippled by the ongoing unrest.

Please pray for Christians in Syria and elsewhere in the Middle East, that the Lord will grant them His peace at this time of uncertainty and meet all their practical needs. Barnabas Fund has been helping Syrian Christians and Iraqi Christian refugees in the country for many years. If you would like to help them, please send a donation to the Syria General Fund.

Barnabas Fund Briefing on the Situation of Christians in the Middle East

Religious minorities have been placed under growing pressure in the wake of the momentous changes brought about in the Arab world as a result of the so-called “Arab Spring”. These momentous changes brought with them hopes for democracy, respect for human rights and prosperity for all citizens of the Middle East.

Sadly, the current developments we are witnessing turn these hopes into fears. From Tunisia to Egypt, Islamist parties have gained ascendency. This is a potential disaster for religious minorities, as Islamist parties rely on a conservative interpretation of Sharia as the principal source of law and ultimately want to make it the law of the land, thus greatly restricting reforms that promote human rights and placing even greater restrictions on non-Muslims than previously existed.

The crisis that has engulfed Syria threatens the two million Christians living there. Since the armed conflict in Iraq, Syria has provided refuge for hundreds of thousands of Iraqi Christian refugees, amongst others who fled to Syria after they were targeted by Islamist extremists in Iraq. While the Assad regime has undoubtedly been authoritarian and brutal in its treatment of its citizens, Syria has traditionally protected its religious minorities more than any other country in the Middle East. Should Syria become consumed by a civil war, it is feared that the vulnerable Christian population will be targeted on a similar scale to what we witnessed in the aftermath of Western intervention in Iraq. China: President Hu Jintao Tells Chinese Navy: Prepare For War

12/07/2011 Leave a comment

“China’s navy should speed up its development and prepare for warfare, President Hu Jintao has said.

He told military personnel they should ‘make extended preparations for warfare’.

China is locked in territorial disputes with several other nations in the South China Sea. Political tension is also growing with the US, which is seeking to boost its presence in the region.

After Mr Hu’s comments, the US said China was entitled to defend itself.

‘Nobody’s looking for a scrap here,’ said Pentagon spokesman Admiral John Kirby in quotes carried by the AFP news agency.

‘Certainly we wouldn’t begrudge any other nation the opportunity to develop naval forces.’

Senior US and Chinese officials are currently holding talks on military issues.

The one-day meeting takes place every year, with the stated aim of ensuring there are no misunderstandings between the two nations.

‘Sovereignty dispute’

China has recently acquired its first aircraft carrier and has been vocal about its naval ambitions.

But its military remains primarily a land-based force, and its naval capabilities are still dwarfed by the US.

Mr Hu told a meeting of military officials that the navy should ‘accelerate its transformation and modernisation in a sturdy way, and make extended preparations for warfare in order to make greater contributions to safeguard national security’.

The word ‘warfare’ was used in official media, but other translations used ‘military combat’ and ‘military struggle’.” Read more.

Egypt: New Islamist Fatwa Forbids Women From Wearing High Heels Outside Home, Forbids Muslims from Voting for Christians

12/07/2011 Leave a comment

The ‘religion of peace’, and misogyny …

Hadith, Bukhari (6:301) – “[Muhammad] said, ‘Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?’ They replied in the affirmative. He said, ‘This is the deficiency in her intelligence.’

Hadith, Tabari Vol 9, Number 1754 – “Treat women well, for they are [like] domestic animals with you and do not possess anything for themselves.” (Mohammed’s ‘Farewell Sermon’)

By Al Arabiya – “The recent emergence of the hardline Salafi trend in Egypt after the January 25 revolution has given way to a series of controversial fatwas that mainly focused on women, Copts, culture and democracy.

Preacher Mustafa al-Adawi issued a fatwa prohibiting Muslim women from wearing high heels because they are a source of seduction for men.

‘A woman can only wear high heels for her husband but she is not to do so outside her house,’ he said.

Another cleric, Sheikh Mahmoud Amer, had issued a fatwa prohibiting Muslims from voting for Coptic candidates or their Muslim counterparts who do not pray on regular basis.

‘It is forbidden by Islam to vote for them and whoever does that will be committing a grave sin,’ he said.

Amer and other Salafi clerics opposed the Egyptian revolution and declared that rebelling against the ruler is forbidden in Islam.

Other controversial statements were issued by prominent Salafi and parliamentary candidate Abdel Moneim al-Shahat who said that democracy is a form of apostasy and categorized the works of Nobel laureate Naguib Mahfouz as ‘atheist literature.'” Read more.

Islamic cleric bans women from touching bananas, cucumbers, carrots, zucchini for sexual resemblance – “CAIRO: An Islamic cleric residing in Europe said that women should not be close to bananas or cucumbers, in order to avoid any ‘sexual thoughts.’ The unnamed sheikh, who was featured in an article on el-Senousa news, was quoted saying that if women wish to eat these food items, a third party, preferably a male related to them such as their a father or husband, should cut the items into small pieces and serve. He said that these fruits and vegetables ‘resemble the male penis’ and hence could arouse women or ‘make them think of sex.’ He also added carrots and zucchini to the list of forbidden foods for women.” Read more.

Egyptian shaykh says it is forbidden for women to participate in the Olympics – “Popular Egyptian Shaykh Muhammad al-‘Arifi last week called on the Saudi government to ban women from participating in the Olympic games, because it is ‘forbidden.’ Al-‘Arifi explained that women are permitted in Islam to play sports, just not when they might mingle with men, or any men might be watching. He also described it as a slippery slope which could lead to women taking off their hijabs or tightening their clothes. Al-‘Arifi also stated that ‘Prince Nawaf would not like his wife or daughter to participate, and thus he should likewise be eager to protect the reputation and virtue of his Muslim sisters.'” Read more.

Saudi Fatwa issued against women with ‘alluring eyes’, religious police to enforce – “The Council for Commanding the Good and Forbidding the Evil (the religious police) in Saudi Arabia confirmed Wednesday that it will force women cover up their eyes, especially those which ‘provoke fitna’ [problems, discord]. The media spokesman for the Council for Commanding the Good and Forbidding the Evil … said in Ha’il (north) that ‘The men of the council will intervene to compel women to cover up their eyes, especially those which provoke fitna.’ … ‘The Council will compel the owner of those eyes to cover them up,’ pointing out that the Council ‘has the right to do that.’ A Saudi citizen entered the hospital at the end of last year after suffering stab wounds in his hand and back after a fight with one of the members of the Council in the Barzan market of Ha’il, after a demand from one of the members of the Council that he cover up the eyes of his wife who was with him at the time.” Read more.

Obama Administration Makes it Official: The Fort Hood Massacre by Jihadist Nidal Hasan Was ‘Workplace Violence’ and Nothing More

12/07/2011 5 comments

We shouldn’t be surprised.  According to the “Panderer-in-Chief” and great supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood who was himself raised in the tradition of Islam and now employs Islamists in the White House, “Islamic terrorism” does not exist in America

“Sen. Susan Collins on Wednesday blasted the Defense Department for classifying the Fort Hood massacre as workplace violence and suggested political correctness is being placed above the security of the nation’s Armed Forces at home.

During a joint session of the Senate and House Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday, the Maine Republican referenced a letter from the Defense Department depicting the Fort Hood shootings as workplace violence. She criticized the Obama administration for failing to identify the threat as radical Islam.

Thirteen people were killed and dozens more wounded at Fort Hood in 2009, and the number of alleged plots targeting the military has grown significantly since then. Lawmakers said there have been 33 plots against the U.S. military since Sept. 11, 2001, and 70 percent of those threats have been since mid-2009. Major Nidal Hasan, a former Army psychiatrist, who is being held for the attacks, allegedly was inspired by radical U.S.-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who was killed in a U.S. drone strike in Yemen in late September. The two men exchanged as many as 20 emails, according to U.S. officials, and Awlaki declared Hasan a hero.

The chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, Connecticut independent Sen. Joe Lieberman, said the military has become a ‘direct target of violent Islamist extremism’ within the United States.

‘The stark reality is that the American service member is increasingly in the terrorists’ scope and not just overseas in a traditional war setting,’ Lieberman told Fox News before the start of Wednesday’s hearing.

In June, two men allegedly plotted to attack a Seattle, Wash., military installation using guns and grenades. In July, Army Pvt. Naser Abdo was accused of planning a second attack on Fort Hood. And in November, New York police arrested Jose Pimentel, who alleged sought to kill service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Both Pimentel and Abdo also allegedly drew inspiration from al-Awlaki and the online jihadist magazine Inspire, which includes a spread on how to ‘Make a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mom.’

Rep. Peter King of New York, the Republican chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, said military service members are ‘symbols of America’s power, symbols of America’s might.’

‘And if they (military personnel) can be killed, then that is a great propaganda victory for al Qaeda,’ King told Fox News.

King said there is also evidence that extremists have joined the services.” Read more.

NASA’s Voyager 1 in ‘Cosmic Purgatory’ on Verge of Entering Milky Way, Something is ‘Pushing Back’

12/07/2011 Leave a comment

By Tom Kennedy – “The spacecraft is close to leaving the Solar System and into the uncharted territory of the Milky Way after more than three decades in space.

Voyager 1 was launched with its twin, Voyager 2, by the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) in 1977.

Voyager 1 is travelling at just under 11 miles per second and sending information from nearly 11 billion miles away from the sun.

It is about to become the first man-made object to leave the Solar System, although Nasa expects it to take between several months and years before it completely enters interstellar space. Voyager 2 will follow later.

Ed Stone, the Voyager project scientist at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, said: ‘Voyager tells us now that we’re in a stagnation region in the outermost layer of the bubble around our solar system. Voyager is showing that what is outside is pushing back.

‘We shouldn’t have long to wait to find out what the space between stars is really like.’

The primary mission for the spacecrafts was the exploration of Jupiter and Saturn.

After uncovering important findings the mission was extended, with the radio contact with mission control lasting longer than had been expected” Read more.

Saudi Arabia to Give Australian 500 Lashes, One Year in Jail for ‘Blasphemy’

12/07/2011 5 comments

By Chana Ya’ar – “Insulting the friends of the founder of Islam earned an Australian national 500 lashes and a year in jail in Saudi Arabia last month.

Mansor Almaribe, a resident of southern Victoria state, was arrested by religious police on November 14 in Medina while participating in the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca known as the hajj. His eldest son Jamal told The Melbourne Age newspaper that Almaribe was reading and praying in a group at the time.

Family members told Australian media that Saudi officials accused the 45-year-old of insulting companions of Islam’s Prophet Muhammed; blasphemy is considered a serious offense in Saudi Arabia, which is governed under Shari’a (Islamic) law.

No information is available about exactly how or when he insulted them, or even which companions of Muhammed he allegedly had insulted.

He was convicted Tuesday and sentenced to two years in prison and 500 lashes. The court later reduced the sentence to ‘only’ one year in jail, in the presence of an Australian consular official who attended the proceedings.

The maximum number of lashes ever allowed to be used as a sentence under Jewish law during the time of the Holy Temples was 39, and that was to be delivered under the supervision of a medical doctor, in sets of three, so as to ensure the convicted person did not die as a result.

A sentence of 500 lashes is considered equivalent to a death sentence.” Read more.
