Florida: Mysterious South Brevard Bee Kill Confounds, Costs Keepers

When the Fellsmere beekeeper checked them Monday, his heart dropped as he saw the mounds of dead bees spilling out of all 400 of his hives off Babcock Street, about a half-mile south of Micco Road near the Indian River County line.

Another beekeeper about a mile south found a similar amount of his bees dead, around the same time, Smith said.

‘This is a total wipeout,’ Smith said as he opened the green wooden hives to show the destroyed honey. ‘This is all no good. It’s been sprayed.’

He estimates he lost $150,000 in honey proceeds, the bees and their future generations.

The beekeepers aren’t accusing anyone, and Brevard County officials doubt recent mosquito control spraying in the area killed the bees.

But the die-off left behind the hallmarks of a pesticide kill, experts say, sparking a whodunit beehive mystery in South Brevard.

‘Right now it’s too early to start pointing fingers at anybody,’ said Bill Kern, an entomologist with the University of Florida’s Research and Education Center in Fort Lauderdale, who has been following the case. ‘The fact that it was so widespread and so rapid, I think you can pretty much rule out disease,’ Kern said. ‘It happened essentially almost in one day. Usually diseases affect adults or the brood, you don’t have something that kills them both.’

State agriculture officials gathered dead and dying bees from both hives Thursday to test for pesticides. Results could take several weeks.

‘Right now, we don’t know what pesticide, if any, was involved,’ Kern said. ‘If there’s a real high level, it’s going to be pretty obvious.'” Read more.

Sudan: Christians Being Detained by Sudanese Armed Forces and Executed, ‘This Land is an Islamic Land’

“KHARTOUM, Sudan, September 29 (CDN) — Failure by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and allied Islamic militia to distinguish between combatants and civilians in territorial battles in South Kordofan state is due in part to a desire to rid the area of Christianity, local Christians say.

A Christian in the Leri East area of Kadugli who escaped SAF Intelligence agents 18 days after his June 20 arrest from his home said he saw six other Christian detainees taken away, one by one, to be executed over the course of two weeks.

‘They were insulting us, saying that this land is an Islamic land and that we were not allowed to be in this land,’ he told Compass. ‘I saw them take my fellow Christians brothers and shoot them in the forest near the place where we were detained.’

While the SAF and its paramilitary allies have targeted members and supporters of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement forces, the Christian, who requested anonymity as he is still in hiding, said he was detained simply because he was a Christian. A convert from Islam 10 years ago, he said he was scheduled to be executed the day he escaped.

‘I was already dead, so I did not fear being shot dead – I was not worried about my safety any more; after all, I was under their mercy as they thought, but God was in control,’ he said.

A former aid worker with a Christian humanitarian agency, he said he was praying throughout the ordeal.

‘I was praying despite the fact they were threatening me that I would face the same fate of the six brothers who were shot dead in the forest,’ he said.

After the miracle of being able to escape during a lull in their vigil, God rescued him from other potential dangers in his trek to freedom, he said.

‘I was interrogated three times at three different check-points, but God covered their eyes to keep them from discovering me,’ he said. ‘I think God is teaching me that I still have a mission to accomplish; that was why he rescued me from the hand of Muslims.'” Read more.

By Reza Kahlili – “The terrorist group Hezb’allah, based in Lebanon, is establishing ‘resistance cells’ worldwide under the direction of Iran, according to Mohammad Hussein Babai, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in the province of Golestan.

The cells are already infiltrating the United States with the help of Venezuela’s Hugo Chávez and drug cartels.

The Iranian Student News Agency, which is close to the Guards, reported last week that Babai, during a press conference, revealed that these jihadist cells began forming after the 2006 Lebanon war between Israel and Hezb’allah, and with the current Islamic Awakening, they have expanded their operations.

Their mission, Babai said, is to help create an Islam-dominated world.

This is the first time that a high-ranking Revolutionary Guard commander in the Islamic regime of Iran has revealed the presence of such jihadist cells in the world.

‘Today we are a witness to our power and authority in the world,’ Babai said, ‘and because of our Islamic Revolution [of 1979], now there is an Islamic Awakening that, with the leadership of the dear supreme leader, Ayatollah [Ali] Khamenei, will become stronger and more resilient.’ The West refers to the Islamic Awakening as the Arab Spring.

Hassan Rahimpour Azghadi, who is a member of the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution and an important theorist of the Islamic regime in Iran, said in a televised speech last Friday that ‘today we must get ready for a global operation, and our forces should expand their operation throughout the world.'” Read more.

Syria: Defecting Soldiers Join Ranks With Protesters As Iran Grows Increasingly Concerned Over Syrian Allies

By Ariel Zirulnick – “A string of defections from the Syrian Army has given protesters armed forces of their own who clashed with government forces Friday in the town of Rastan, signaling the end of the protesters’ insistence that the uprising remain totally unarmed.

According to BBC, at least 1,000 army deserters and other armed men clashed with government forces in Rastan, a little more than 100 miles north of Damascus, in the last few days. Reuters reports that, according to the Syrian Revolution General Commission, the last few days of clashes – which included tank fire from government forces – killed 41 people in Rastan.

The Syrian Revolution General Commission, an umbrella for several activist groups, said that the figure was an estimate, with communications cut with the besieged town.

While clashes continued in Rastan, the US Ambassador to Syria came under attack in Damascus for the second time since protests began in March. Regime supporters hurled tomatoes and rocks at Ambassador Robert Ford, who has been a vocal critic of the Syrian regime.” Read more.

The official, however, said the U.S. will press for a Palestinian state quickly if President Obama is re-elected.

‘The main message we received from the U.S. is that nothing will happen in a serious way before the 2012 elections,’ said the official.

The PA official said Obama ‘will not accept the Palestinian request of a state at the (U.N.) Security Council and cannot help on the ground for now.’

‘We were told to wait for Obama’s reelection, and that before then nothing serious will happen for a state,’ the official continued. ‘But after the reelection, the U.S. said the schedule will be short to reach a Palestinian state.'” Read more.

AJC Survey Confirms: Obama Losing Jewish Vote – “A new poll from the American Jewish Committee shows further erosion of President Obama’s Jewish support. Only 45 percent of American Jews approve of ‘the way President Barack Obama has handled his job as President,’ and 48 percent disapprove. This is an even worse statistic than the 40 percent Jewish disapproval that Gallup reported last week. California: Teacher Bans Students From Saying ‘God Bless You,’ Punishes By Knocking 25 Points Off Grade

“A California health teacher is banning the phrase ‘God Bless You,’ said by some students after a classmate sneezes, from his classroom claiming the blessing is disrespectful and disruptive. For punishment, he knocks 25 points off the student’s grade if he or she says it.

This classroom rule is leaving many parents outraged saying he doesn’t have rights to impose his personal beliefs on others; the school agrees. Now, California teacher Steve Cuckovick has promised to try a less controversial form of punishment.” Source.

Pakistan: Massive Floods, Islamic Suicide Bombings, Now an Unprecedented Outbreak of Dengue Fever

In less than a month, 126 people have died and more than 12,000 have been diagnosed with the virus, which has spread rapidly among both rich and poor in Pakistan’s cultural capital Lahore.

Dengue affects between 50 and 100 million people in the tropics and subtropics each year, resulting in fever, muscle and joint ache.

But it can also be fatal, developing into haemorrhagic fever and shock syndrome, which is characterised by bleeding and a loss of blood pressure.

Caused by four strains of virus spread by the mosquito Aedes aegypti, there is no vaccine — which is why prevention methods focus on mosquito control.

Pakistani authorities in Lahore have blamed the crisis on prolonged monsoon rains and unusually high seasonal temperatures.

But furious locals say the outbreak is yet another example of government inefficiency, citing a failure to take preventive measures to kill off the mosquitos and lengthy power cuts.

Saad Azeem, 45, is a police officer who should be out spraying the streets with insecticide, but he is laid up at home suffering from the fever and mourning the death of his elderly father.

‘My father was 79 years old and a retired deputy superintendent of police. His death due to dengue fever really shocked us,’ Azeem told AFP.

‘This dengue has become a calamity.'” Read more.

Missouri: Pro-Israel Arab Gets Star of David Carved in His Back by Members of the Muslim Community

By Nonie Darwish – “About a year ago, I posted an Arabic language poem titled ‘Tears at the Heart of the Holocaust’ on my website, ArabsForIsrael.com. The poem expressed its Arab author’s love for the Jewish people and his mourning over what happened to them in the Holocaust. The brave poet, Mr. Alaa Alsaegh, is an immigrant to the US from Iraq, who now lives in Missouri. Such poems did not sit well with the Muslim community, which caused Mr. Alsaegh to be alienated from it. He received threats because of his support for the Jewish people, was called an infidel and a traitor to Islam, but he continued with his writing of poems and did not take the threats too seriously.

Mr. Alsaegh, as well as Muslim critics and former Muslims who are accused of apostasy, are living under threats, but, lo and behold, if we dare to speak about our fears, we are immediately silenced and accused of being Islamophobes. The mainstream media insist that there is no need to fear Sharia or its enforcers in America and that we are exaggerating our plight from Islam. We are told that what happens in the Arab streets can never happen in the streets of America.

Tell that to Alsaegh, after the unthinkable happened to him, when on August 14, 2011 and in broad daylight and heavy traffic, he was viciously attacked on the streets of St. Louis, Missouri. According to Mr. Alsaegh, as he was driving at 10:30 in the morning on Compton St. near Park Ave., a small white car cut him off and hit his car, while another car stopped behind him. The occupants of the cars, some of whom wore security guard-type uniforms, quickly entered Alsaegh’s car, pointing a gun at him. They pushed his upper body down against the steering wheel, stabbed him and pulled off his shirt to expose his back. Then, with a knife, they carved the Star of David on his back while laughing as they recited his pro-Jewish poem. Mr. Alsaegh believes that the attackers could be Somalis, but he was not sure. After the attackers fled the scene, Mr. Alsaegh was surrounded by witnesses to the crime and was taken to the hospital. The photo representing this story was taken at the hospital.

After I learned of the attack on Mr. Alsaegh, I did not want to rush to judgment and waited until he told me that the FBI concluded that this was a hate crime. I believe that my article on this incident is the first to be reported in the media. This incident has been totally ignored by the mainstream media.” Read more.

“(CBS/AP) A 26-year-old Massachusetts man charged with planning aerial bombings of the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol using remote-controlled airplanes filled with explosives Ferdaus said he wanted to deal a psychological blow to the ‘enemies of Allah,’ according to a federal affidavit.

The planes, guided by GPS and capable of speeds greater than 100 mph, would hit the Pentagon and blow the Capitol dome to ‘smithereens,’ according to the plan detailed in the affidavit.

Officials say Rezwan Ferdaus, a U.S. citizen who graduated from Northeastern University with a bachelor’s degree in physics and is also a part-time drummer, used his science background to turn cell phones into detonators which could be used to trigger home-made bombs.

But it was a larger plot that led to his arrest early Wednesday.

A federal affidavit said Ferdaus, of Ashland, Mass., began planning “jihad” against the U.S. in early 2010 after becoming convinced America was evil through jihadi websites and videos.

CBS News national security correspondent Bob Orr reports that over the past nine months, undercover FBI agents posing as al Qaeda operatives recorded multiple conversations in which Ferdaus laid out plans for an aerial attack on key Washington landmarks.

He called the Pentagon the ‘head and heart of the snake,’ according to the affidavit.

‘Allah has given us the privilege,’ he allegedly told the informant. ‘… He punishes them by our hand. We’re the ones.’

Asked at one point about possibly killing women and children, Ferdaus allegedly said all unbelievers of Islam were his enemies.” Read more.

Egypt: Christian Girl Banned From School For Not Wearing an Islamic Veil

Don’t worry, now that Hosni Mubarak has been ousted, the Egyptian Revolution will one day bring true freedom to the people of Egypt, including women.  Some day.  Maybe.  Right? …

“(AINA) — A Christian girl was prevented for over a week from entering her school in Beni Mazar, Minya province, because she refused to wear a veil. ‘The school management described her as ‘flaunt’ for not covering her hair,’ said Coptic activist Nader Shoukry, who uncovered the story.

‘Coptic students were forced to obey for fear of the school management’s threats,’ said Mr. Wagdy Halfa, the attorney for the girl, ‘except for 14-year-old Ferial Sorial Habib, whose family refused this decision because it is inconsistent with religious freedom and a blatant Islamization of education.’

Ferial was prevented from entering her school by the social worker, Ms. Ola Abdel Fattah, for eight consecutive days.

Her father went to school on September 17 to protest this decision, but the school filed a police complaint against him on charges of libel and defamation.

Mr. Wagdy Halfa, the student’s attorney, said the school administration of Shaikh Fadl Secondary School, a public school in Bani Mazar, had sent a warning to Christian students compelling them to wear a head dress, similar to the Hijab, and not to reveal their hair, otherwise they would be refused entry to school.

Ferial’s father filed a formal complaint with the state attorney and another with the Department of Education of Bani Mazar, stating the school has turned into a ‘hotbed of militants’ and has acted out of its legal scope by forcing on students what is not specified by law or in the educational guidelines. He asked the authorities to investigate this incident.

According to attorney Halfa schools are only allowed to choose the color of the uniform. He warned of the seriousness of the incident as it confirms the Islamist program to take control of the education system and impose the veil on Christian women.” Read more.

Report: Saudis Export Anti-Christian and Anti-Jewish Textbooks that Continue to Fuel Intolerance and Violence Around the Globe

By Charles Lewis – “Textbooks used in Saudi Arabia’s schools contain virulent forms of anti-Christian and anti-Jewish bigotry that continue to fuel intolerance and violence around the globe, says a new report.

The problem is far greater than the five million students in Saudi Arabia who use these texts every day, said Nina Shea, director of the Washington-based Hudson Institute’s Center for Religious Freedom.

‘Because of the Saudis’ great oil wealth, it is able to disseminate its textbooks far and wide,’ she wrote in the report, Ten Years On.

‘[These textbooks] are posted on the Saudi Education Ministry’s website and are shipped and distributed free by a vast Saudi-sponsored Sunni infrastructure to many Muslim schools, mosques and libraries throughout the world.

‘This is not just hate mongering, it’s promoting violence,’ she said in an interview. It is exporting terrorism through textbooks.

Christians are referred to as ‘swine’ and Jews as ‘apes,’ while being blamed for much of the world’s ills.

She notes in the report that since the Saudis control Islam’s holiest shrines in Mecca and Medina, they can ‘disseminate its religious materials among the millions of Muslims making the Hajj each year. Hence, these teachings can have a wide and deep influence.’

It was not a coincidence that 15 of the 19 attackers on 9/11 were Saudis, she added.

Ms. Shea, a human rights lawyer for 30 years, said a prime example of the texts’ influence can be seen in Indonesia, a country with a history of religious tolerance.

In 2005, Abdurrahman Wahid, the then-president, wrote about the danger of the Saudis’ exported ideology, saying it was fueling a ‘well-financed, multifaceted global movement that operates like a juggernaut in much of the developing world, and even among immigrant Muslim communities in the West.’

In the report, Ms. Shea cites dozens of examples of inflammatory language used against several groups, including Baha’is.

UniCredit Exec Says Euro ‘Practically Dead’, Greece’s Inevitable Default Will ‘Shake the World’

“(Reuters) – The euro is dead and cannot be saved, while Greece will inevitably default, Attila Szalay-Berzeviczy, Head of Global Securities Services at UniCredit Group wrote in an article on a Hungarian website on Wednesday.

Szalay-Berzeviczy signed the article as former head of the Budapest Stock Exchange.

‘The common currency of Europe is practically dead,’ he said in a long article posted on news website Index.hu.

A UniCredit spokesperson said, “The comments expressed by Mr Szalay-Berzeviczy are his own personal view and do not reflect the position of the company”.

Szalay-Berzeviczy said the only remaining question now was ‘for how many days the hopeless rearguard fight of European governments and the European Central Bank can keep up Greece’s spirits.’

‘As the moment when Greece declares default, Europe can be shaken by an earthquake of magnitude 10, which will bring the onset of an entirely new era in the life of the old Continent,’ Szalay-Berzeviczy wrote.

Szalay-Berzeviczy signed the article as former head of the Budapest Stock Exchange. He could not immediately be reached for comments.

He said Greece’s default will mean that the state will not be able to pay wages to its employees and will not pay pensions for quite a while, which would lead to a rush to banks’ cash-machines.

‘With the government securities stuck with local banks becoming worthless, an immediate liquidity crisis will lead to the total collapse of the Greek banking system,’ he said.

‘So the savings of depositors will also be lost as the Greek state’s deposit guarantee will no longer be available.’

Szalay-Berzeviczy said in this case, this ‘catastrophe’ would very quickly spread to the entire euro zone, Europe and would also shake the world, with contagion spreading via the banking system under such a scenario.” Read more.
