Greece: Sliding Down the Slippery Slope of Economic Ruin, Bankruptcy and Anarchy

By Alexia KEFALAS – “Reuters – Greek police clashed with groups of hooded youths in central Athens on Tuesday at the start of two days of strikes and protests against cuts demanded by international lenders as the price for more financial aid.

As Greece teeters on the edge of bankruptcy, parliament is due to vote this week on a package of spending cuts, tax increases and privatisations agreed as part of a massive bailout aimed at averting the euro zone’s first default.

Labour unions have called a 48-hour strike to protest against the measures and more than 5,000 police were deployed to the centre of the capital to deal with expected trouble as a crowd officials estimated at some 20,000 rallied in Syntagma Square, in front of the parliament building.” Read more.

Why France’s Rescue Plan for Greece Won’t Work Either – “France’s new plan to rescue Greece and forestall the looming global financial crisis has one important thing in common with all the previous efforts: It won’t work. Hearing the clamor for a 21st century version of the “Brady Bonds,” which helped save Latin America in the late 1980s, France has proposed allowing Greece to stretch out the maturity of its debt to 30 years, presumably with a more manageable payment schedule. The idea is that it would give Greece time to work out its problems while assuring that the foreign banks holding the 340 billion euros of outstanding debt would still get paid. A few problems:” Read more.

If Greece defaults, many will get hurt – “Many people think this is just a problem for Greece or the Eurozone and really doesn’t matter to the rest of us. But is that really the case? If so, savers all over the world, including U.S. retirees, would likely be impacted… Any way you look at it, this is not just a little problem in Greece. It affects all of us and you need to understand the implications of it for your investments.” Read more.

I wonder with Greece being in the headlines for almost a year now if we are not seeing something that we should be watching for. Is there something here with Greece that we are not yet seeing ?? Other than their potental bankruptcy I hear nothing else – thoughts on this ??

Walid Shoebat talks about Zechariah 9:13 on his latest episode of End Times Today (http://www.shoebat.com/videos/ett6.php) and says that Yavan “was simply a province that was located in the west coast of modern Turkey. This is crucial because the clear context of this battle is the return of Christ. ‘Then Jehovah will appear over them and fight on their behalf.’ So in the end times, the time when Jesus returns, the Jews — or in this case Zion — will be engaged in a war with Turkey, ‘Yuvan'”.

Also, though generally translated as Greece in many English translations, Yuvan has other meanings as well. In Hitchcock’s Bible Dictionary it means “deceiver; one who makes sad”. In Naves Topical Bible and Smiths Bible Dictionary it is also defined as “A city in Arabia in which the Phoenicians traded, Eze 27:13,19”, likely in Yemen (which is a breeding ground for al Qaeda currently). The Bible Encyclopedia – ISBE states, “The reference in Ezek 27:13 (from which that in Isa 66:19 is copied) is the country personified. In Joel the plural yewanim, is found. In Dan the name is extended to the Greeks generally. Corroboration of the name is found in Assyrian (Schrader, editor, Keilinschriftliche Bibliothek, II, 43). ‘The Persian Yauna occurs in the same double reference from the time of Darius; compare Aesch. Persian., 176, 562’ (Skinner, Gen, 198). In Egyptian the word is said to be yevan- (n)a; in the Tell el-Amarna Letters Yivana is mentioned as being in the land of Tyre.”

Yikes, looks like the Revived Roman Empire is in desperate need of a Revived Roman Umpire!

Zechariah is an amazing end times book. Mike Bickle of IHOP says that there are 150 chapters in the bible that the majority topic is the end times or the Millennium.

Your discourse on “Yuvan” leaves us more in doubt about what country/people is meant. I will watch the Shoebat video, but based on the possibilities you enumerate it seems unlikely that a definite group can be identified.

I think Walid is right. Also, considering that it often refers to locations that are today Islamic (southern Arabia/Yemen, Assyria, Persia, Egypt, Lebanon (Tyre)) in addition to a “deceiver” I think that we have a good indication that it may also be referring to the surrounding Islamic nations in general.

Moreover, the “sons of Javan/Yuvan” were the enemies of Zion and were the advancing, threatening power of the region during Zechariah’s time, so it seems to me that since this is describing the Last Days deliverance of Israel that it is therefore reasonable to understand Zechariah 9:13 as a reference to the enemies of Zion and the advancing, threatening power of the region that will exist at the time of Israel’s deliverance by Messiah’s appearance. One reason why I support this understanding is because there is not one single reference in the whole of Scripture where Christ is described after the Second Coming as punishing/destroying any nation other than those that are today Islamic.

Up until this financial crisis in Greece I have always understood the sons of Greece in Zec 9:13 as being the Islamic peoples surrounding Israel today. The SONS of GREECE being the offspring of Alexander and his four generals which ruled this part of the world after the Persian Empire fell which would also include Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, and Syria this possibly being the ten nations or tens horns

I watched Walid’s latest video last night and other than the ‘7 year trib’ interpretation, it was fascinating and informative; especially the history of the Medina Muslims vs the Mecca Quaresh and their treaty–the ‘hudna’ concept. W is very good communicator.

I hope you both understand I am not waivering on a EU Beast vs. an Islamic Beast–I’m 100% in agreement with you on the role of Islam in the end times. I’m just working through my historicist understanding and my unwillingness to see Revelation fast forwarded over 2000 years of church history–that makes absolutely no sense to me.

I, too, agree that Revelation does not fast-forward over 2000 years. I see it as describing a considerable history of the ekklesia of God, and with a significant focus on the Middle East and the Islamic beast throughout the centuries and the eschaton, not the EU and Roman Catholicism.
