‘A Victory for Freedom of Speech’: Dutch Populist Geert Wilders Acquitted of ‘Hate’ Speech

Finally, following the recommendation of the prosecution itself that Geert Wilders be found ‘Not Guilty’ on all counts, the judgment of the Dutch court falls in favor of common sense.  This is a victory for free speech, a victory for truth, and a blow to Islamists and their sympathizers who wish to muzzle the voice of honest public discourse and take advantage of our democratic freedoms in the promotion of their own ideologies, and at the expense of our own.  Though the war rages on, freedom has today won a battle …

I was brought to trial despite being an elected politician and the leader of the third-largest party in the Dutch parliament. I was not prosecuted for anything I did, but for what I said.” Read more.
