TURKEY: Christians Despised

03/30/2011 Leave a comment

“Four years after the brutal murders of three Christians at a publishing house in Malatya, Turkey, attitudes toward Christians in Turkey have become even less favorable. According to a new report from the Turkish Association of Protestant Christians, the Christian minority in Turkey suffer discrimination, slander, personal attacks and attacks against churches on a daily basis.

Legal changes that followed Turkey’s bid to become a full member of the European Union made it possible for non-Muslims to found places of worship in Turkey. In practice, however, ‘negative attitudes of civil servants’ pose substantial barriers to non-Muslims, especially Protestants, who want to establish places of worship. Local officials often refuse to issue licenses to new churches; last year, three churches faced legal problems relating to their buildings.”  Read more.

President Obama: ‘Mosques Destroyed’

03/30/2011 Leave a comment

By Robert Morrison – “The President finally addressed the nation and the world nearly two weeks after initiating military action against Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi. Boiling down his speech, he claimed a moral imperative to intervene with force because Gaddafi had killed innocent civilians and destroyed mosques in his struggle to hang on to power.

‘Mosques destroyed,’ the president said, supported his argument for air strikes. Churches are being destroyed daily in the Muslim world, but the U.S. does not intervene. Take Iraq, for example. We have sacrificed thousands of our soldiers’ lives and billions in treasure in an effort to bring freedom to this war-torn country.

But the Christians there are daily being murdered and their churches bombed. As a senator, Barack Obama had no interest in preventing Saddam Hussein from filling mass graves. He vocally opposed our going into Iraq. That was then.

In Pakistan, the only Christian cabinet member was assassinated and a Muslim governor who sought to protect a Christian woman from death was also gunned down, reputedly by his own security guard. Christians in Pakistan face escalating persecution. Their churches are attacked and anyone who converts from Islam to Christianity is killed.”  Read more.

Biggest Spike Yet In Radiation at Japan Power Plant

By MARI YAMAGUCHI – “TOKYO – Seawater outside the hobbled nuclear power plant in northeastern Japan was found to contain 3,335 times the usual amount of radioactive iodine — the highest rate yet and a sign that more contaminated water was making its way into the ocean, officials said Wednesday.

The amount of iodine-131 found offshore some 300 yards (meters) south of the coastal Fukushima Dai-ichi power plant does not pose an immediate threat to human health but was a ‘concern,’ said Hidehiko Nishiyama, a Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency official. He said there was no fishing in the area.”  Read more.

Seventy Metal Books Found in Cave in Jordan – Could Be Biggest Find Since the Dead Sea Scrolls

By FIONA MACRAE – “For scholars of faith and history, it is a treasure trove too precious for price.

This ancient collection of 70 tiny books, their lead pages bound with wire, could unlock some of the secrets of the earliest days of Christianity.

Academics are divided as to their authenticity but say that if verified, they could prove as pivotal as the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947.

On pages not much bigger than a credit card, are images, symbols and words that appear to refer to the Messiah and, possibly even, to the Crucifixion and Resurrection.

Adding to the intrigue, many of the books are sealed, prompting academics to speculate they are actually the lost collection of codices mentioned in the Bible’s Book Of Revelation.”  Read more.

Second Fish Kill in as Many Months Discovered in Australia

By Ken Warren – “DEAD mullet have been found floating on the surface of a Taree waterway for the second time in less than two months.

The fish could be seen at the wetland near Nulama Village at Taree North yesterday, also the site of a similar fish kill in February.

The heat and subsequent loss of oxygen from the water was blamed on that occasion but does not seem likely this time due to the much milder weather conditions.

Some of the fish were found on the banks of the wetland, suggesting they may have jumped from the water.”  Read more.

‘Fukushima Plutonium Leak Comparable to Chernobyl Disaster’

Nuclear energy expert Lars Polmeier:  ‘Plutonium is a very, very dangerous and harmful substance, even in very small quantities the plutonium, if it is ingested by a human body, almost certainly leads to the development of cancer.  There’s no concept how to monitor and how to store the radioactive fuel which will radiate for many, many, many thousands of years.’

Muslim Group Threatens to Turn Wedding of Prince William Into a ‘Nightmare’

“London: A group of extremist Muslims has allegedly threatened to disrupt the wedding of Prince William, saying ‘the day the nation has been dreaming of will become a nightmare’.

A Muslim group – named Muslims Against Crusades – vowed to disrupt the royal wedding and even threatened to start a riot during the celebrations, The Sun reported citing Scotland Yard officials.

Meanwhile, a right-wing group, the English Defence League, has also vowed to act against people who might try to wreck the royal event.

The Muslim group has set up a website showing pictures of Prince Harry with a tagline saying ‘Bestman is a Nazi’. It was referring to a 2005 photograph showing Harry at a friend’s birthday wearing a Nazi armband.

The site termed the royal family ‘enemies to Allah and his messenger’.”  Read more.

Letter Claims Al Qaeda Planted 160 Nuclear Bombs Across the United States

03/30/2011 Leave a comment

Likely fake in my opinion.  If it claimed 1 or 2 that would be reasonable, but 160 is near impossible.

“CHICAGO (CBS 2) – The threats came in the mail and to date, there have been 25 letters that warn of nuclear bombs destroying America.

People who got them called the FBI and CBS 2′s Kristyn Hartman learned, the Bureau’s Chicago office is leading the investigation.

FBI Special Agent Andre Zavala said, ‘Yes, they alarmed a lot of people.’

Attorney Tracy Rizzo was alarmed. A number of days ago, an envelope, with a Chicago postmark and a hand-written address to her private investigations firm, came in the mail.”  Read more.

‘… That Where I Am There You May Be Also’ – It Means More Than We Think

John 14:1-3, “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”

CarpenterMany of us have often assumed that when Jesus spoke of the “Father’s house” in John 14 He was referring to Heaven and was referring to the rapture of the Church when He promised that we would be received unto Him. As such, many have understood the text to infer that, as believers in Christ, we would all be whisked away to Heaven to live in a “mansion just over the hilltop” before the world is tossed into the abyss of a seven-year tribulation just prior to “Daniel’s 70th week.” But is this what Jesus was referring to when He says “My Father’s house”? And was Jesus telling us that He would take us to Heaven when He promised to come again to receive us unto Himself? Let’s take a moment to explore the text and compare Scripture with Scripture to determine if this is the picture that the Word of God paints for us, or if the Word paints a different picture for us altogether. In the end, I believe we may see that there is much more to these three verses than many of us have often assumed. Read more…
